Completely agree and love the weaver analogy. Astronomy, public health, environmental sciences, materials sciences, social sciences, computational sciences, biomedical research, ecology etc - we have to stay unified in defending science and communicating what it offers humanity.

“Klein’s musings about redrawing the line are, more importantly, a manifestation of a pervasive tendency in American elite circles to accommodate rather than fight back, to acquiesce rather than stand firm.” Not good.

Hey folks in CA - I heard NPR interview of Steve Hilton like 6mo ago and started following on X out of curiosity. WOW - very scary. Sounded reasonable on NPR but super inflammatory and mis-information spreading on X. Polls show he is pretty close behind Porter. How worried should we be about this?

Compact requires

“universities to have policies prohibiting ‘all university employees, in their capacity as university representatives,’ to abstain from ‘actions or speech relating to societal and political events except in cases in which external events have a direct impact upon the university.”

My quote of the day

Jane Goodall
The part that always shocked me was the inter-community violence among the chimps: the patrols and the vicious attacks on strangers that lead to death. It's an unfortunate parallel to human behavior - they have a dark side just as we do. We have less excuse, because we can deliberate, so I believe only we are capable of true calculated evil.

We asked 1,000 Americans who is to blame for the shutdown. Here’s what they said.

The Washington Post Accused Me of “Gross Misconduct.” Here's My Response.
This fight isn’t just about my job — it’s about who gets punished for telling the truth, and who gets protected for spreading hate and violence.

Reportedly some ICE detainees are held for days, even up to a week. Our room stank of sweat & pepper ball powder after just a few hours. Their room appeared dirty, filled with men dressed for labor, trying to get comfortable to sleep in chairs or on the cold floor in the cinder block room.

You cannot keep your head down and expect to sneak through the next three years unaffected.

We MUST come together and say “NO!”

Suppression of freedoms *always* starts at universities and in the press.

You’ve got like 5 seconds to wake up.

All of this is so deeply upsetting because children will have preventable febrile seizures, mothers may miscarry due to untreated fever, and some pregnancies will be more challenging due to unmanaged pain. There are no upsides to this reckless misinformation from the top just harm and pain.

This is the point of the new EO: it is to make people think twice before they provide their honest evaluation of the Trump regime. You called them fascist? Well, you must be antifa. You call them authoritarian? You are inciting terrorism.
