Alberta teachers are on strike because our classrooms are overflowing and we have the lowest funded public education system in the entire country. Meanwhile, we can seemingly afford to publicly fund $40+ milllion private schools and give private schools 70-85% public funding. No other province has anything like this. The most private schools see in other provinces is 13%, and Ontario doesn't fund them at all! And during the strike, we are able to pay 50% of private homeschooling costs, and pay parents to stay with their kids more.than twice per student what we pay teachers. This is all ideological warfare against public schooling, which our premier said in 2018 before she became premier, should be fully defunded and all the public education budget should be given to independent private schools instead. Her reasoning was.that public schools "indoctrinate" children in "leftist" ideas. Because as she said after becoming premier, academic research should produce reaults aligning with "Conservative views" at least 50% of the time, or else they are biased and will have their federal funding blocked by the provice. And if a highly academic International Bacclaureate student dares to question this private school funding from public coffers, our government tells him his parents sbould be spanking him for addressing adults. It is up to us, the people, to end this insanity.
