90's political correctness was so much better than Woke Era political correctness on every front. 90's political correctness was so focused on specialness and Woke Era political correctness was so focused on like... Race essentialism and neo liberal original sin. We have to go back

the wave of weaponized nostalgia for 90s-style multiculturalism and political correctness is gonna hit different

Part of me wonders when will they merge like FF and FG have kind of done here.

I love how they all sound like Chris Morris' ideas of American names.

He's definitely of the same ilk of my mad uncle (Linehan supporting, Trump loving but also pro-Palestine)
Unlike most GCs, my uncle actually does acknowledge he is mad (thanks to having a sane wife).

my tinfoil hat theory is that “unisex” is just for cis ppl who wanna feel like they are nonconforming and breaking the binary or whatnot. we want clothing to be segregated by type and size! all of it! not just the t-shirts & dungarees, but the dresses, the skirts, the suits and the underwear too!

clothing brands that add a “unisex” category to their store and fill it with the most bland, uninspired, shapeless potato sack looking clothing give me a headache. i don’t even know who the “unisex” category is supposed to be for atp cause there’s nothing revolutionary about t-shirts & loose pants.

See, I would think of Price as a British resident (like with Elaine Stritch).

Not just Boomers, early Gen X, people like Linehan.

Reminded of Graham Linehan giving us 'The Chinese - A Great Bunch of Lads' and now...

I feel the perfect illustration between hauntology and Utopian Scholastic is comparing the 70s and the 90s Tomorrow People @danmckee.bsky.social @bobfischer.bsky.social
@franticplanet.bsky.social called it American hauntology, but I feel post-hauntology fits more. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9q7e...

@scarredforlife.bsky.social really good thread on the kind of post-hauntology Utopian Scholastic/multicultural movement of the 90s that replaced hauntology. And about how it was false hope for my generation.

Been watching a lot of old episodes of Reading Rainbow and oh boy does it really challenge the notion that in the old days things used to be less woke

Just realised that the Simpsons Model UN is part of this.
Always thought as a kid, the blank sheets were an animation error.

There was something inspirational growing up in this era, so much hope through science and cooperation

Which is why is feels so awful becoming an adult when anti-intellectualism and pride in lacking empathy have taken root

i often think back to global village. I think the simple message that people all around the world are pretty much like you will make a comeback as soon as the internet is wrestled free from a total of 10 companies

It had to be killed.

It was *embarrassing* and it turns out that that is worse than death.

We sold our patrimony not for Esau's mess of pottage but for a mess of ironic detachment.

Remembering when every white person in America was inexplicably obsessed with Africa for like 3 years in the 90s.

I think a huge part of the Millennial Condition is the contrast between the world as we expected it to be based on stuff like this, and how things actually ended up. If a movement and leaders could harness the anger and sadness at that deferred dream, we might yet progress

@terwillikerinst.bsky.social RE:your Lansbury tweet, here's something to ponder. Who do we think is the old age American star (and an actual star not a nearly-was) who worked in Britain the most?
Who we don't think as a UK resident?
Heston?
My head almost rules out Joseph Cotten...
