An unprecedented weekend put Portland at the center of national headlines, as President Trump continued his push to deploy National Guard members into the city over the objections of city and state elected officials and a federal judge.
Portland’s weekend of ICE protests: Tear gas, National Guard restraining orders and false claims of a city burning to the ground
After his order for an Oregon National Guard deployment was blocked, Trump turned to the National Guard in California and Texas for hundreds of federal troops he could send to Portland.

Extreme heat will continue in the interior Northwest today and begin waning tomorrow and especially late in the week. Children, the elderly, and those with chronic illness are especially vulnerable to heat exposure. Learn the signs of heat-related illnesses at weather.gov/safety/heat-illness

I debated writing this. It can feel tempting, upon encountering yet another instance of this administration’s racism, to let it be. How many ways can you say the same thing over and over again? And yet we have to write it down, if for nothing else, so those who come after us know we were against it.
Actually, Slavery Was Very Bad
The president’s latest criticism of museums is a thinly veiled attempt to erase Black history.

Grateful that it's Friday and for my co-worker who flagged this classic performance of Tin Omen. Seems oddly appropriate in many ways. #puppyforever www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTIq...

😆

As a kid of the 90s, those bands prolonged my teenaged aversion to all things classic rock.

I remain embarrassed that it took me so long to appreciate so many classic rock bands. But I'm still a snob and don't get the 90's era revival, heh. I'll be the first to say my music taste is awful.

Gerrymandering news: the Princeton Gerrymandering Project has scored the draft Texas Congressiional plan. It gets…an F. No surprise.

But…it gets a C for competitiveness, because of some potential to backfire on its crafters.
