The property is too small to do anything with and in kind of a shit location on the inside of a blind curve... So the city repurposed it as a graffiti wall.

Kind of like our local graffiti wall. For decades the home of a tiny, decrepit, dive bar. The property was eventually seized for taxes and the building razed because it was mostly standing only by force of habit.

Seemed pretty harmless, some timeline inconsistencies, no biggie. Then, suddenly the Fire Nation attacked.
I mean, WTF was that twist?
Yeah, now I have questions. And a definite interest in tuning in next week too see if there are any hints or answers.

That's not what I'm seeing. The upswing starts in the 1950's and any contribution by Star Trek is effectively an invisible part of a more general upswing.
Narrowing the time timescale to 1950-1980 and turning off smoothing makes this even more clear.
