UN climate talks are built on consensus. That’s part of the problem.

At COP, the requirement that countries find consensus before taking action has stalled climate progress for decades. Experts say there's a better way.

We’re so focused on the negative impacts of capitalist tech platforms on young people, but not nearly concerned enough about the screen dependence of older people.
Older people are spending more time on their phones than the kids are
Some think this is a good thing as we enter into an "app-based retirement." I am not so sure.

BREAKING TODAY: Vancouver Council finally passed UNANIMOUSLY building bylaw changes allowing single-stair buildings up to 6 storeys, with a @lucymaloney.bsky.social amendment for corresponding zone changes. Congratulations to all who’ve championed this including @lanefab.com & @holz-bau.bsky.social.
Single stair code changes coming to @cityofvancouver.bsky.social council today.

It’s been several years of work getting to this point.

It’s not everything that I’d want but it’s a good first step, with external single stairs and low/mid rise scissor stairs as entirely new housing options.

Over on the other site, gene-editing scientist Lucas Harrington announced a new company to explore "preventive gene editing."

In case you're counting, this is the third startup openly pursuing plans to edit human embryos. More on the company here: www.preventive.bio/blog/announc...
