Suzyn Waldman—who I know for a fact doesn’t hold back in private—sounds like she is looking forward to taking in some Broadway shows.

“It gets late early out there.”

Yes. But because Norway was in union with Sweden at the time of Nobel’s death, the prize is the gift of the Swedish Academy.

The Norwegians pick the Peace Prize.
dicknixon.bsky.social
You never know what the Swedish Academy will do, but I would not be surprised if they make a statement similar to Rome.

Now, Mr. President, the question that will *consume* the White House: Does Trump win the Nobel Peace Prize?
dicknixon.bsky.social
Chisholm looking into his glove like a sixth grader. Jesus Christ. Those plays happen to everybody. Baseball is difficult. But I long ago got less tolerant with the Yankees because they do it all the time. This is the big leagues, goddamn it!

Suzyn Waldman: “That’s awful.”
dicknixon.bsky.social
The Israel-Hamas deal was possible any time in the past year or more. Trump is personally sick of Netanyahu and chose to apply the screws now. That’s all it is.

@dicknixon.bsky.social This is a very sophisticated message. The camera moves to avoid looking like AI. She wanted people to be certain.

"Oh dears" is a way to call attention to the tiresome fact that in some quarters any criticism of Newsom is seen as saying mocking is not a valid political tool. That's absurd. Of course it is. It's that his method talks to nobody but those who already want to hear it.
aster-verite.bsky.social
OH dears, is your way of calling for his tribalist followers to start the dog pile, because his views were challenged and his was lightly mocked.

sad clown.

“Oh dears.”

Oh dears, the one who fails to grasp what Newsom is accomplishing is YOU.

Why mockery works against fascism: A primer on asymmetrical power, satire, and the Texas National Guard in Chicago

Authoritarians fetishize aesthetics... uniforms, fitness, control, "order," and spectacle.

Their power is performative, designed to awe, to intimidate, to project superiority.

You might hate it if it's against you, but if you care about baseball you can't call it boring.

It's the casual fan vs. the baseball fan. For a leader the Brewers have one of the great recent workhorses, Yelich. They have a real star of the future, Chourio. Frelick plays like his hero Pedroia. They grow pitching on trees, and they run/field as well as anybody. They rarely make mistakes.

As a long time Milwaukee resident I can tell you there are resentments here but sweating Chicago's status in the world is waaay down the list.

People on here seem to be complaining a lot about the Brewers not being 'cool' enough. To them I say: grow up and watch yr money burn this season.

Newsom's method is not equal to Pritzker's, and it's unworthy of a serious commentator to pretend it is.
gregsargent.bsky.social
JB Pritzker and Gavin Newsom are doing something new and important: They understand Stephen Miller's theory of fascist power politics, and they've developed a theory on how to combat it. More Dems need to reckon with Miller's understanding of the moment.

New from me:

Inside Stephen Miller’s Secret Plan to Normalize Trump’s Dictator Rule
He wants to supercharge searing civil tensions to get low-information voters to embrace their inner authoritarian. Exactly two Democrats appear to fully grasp this.

Look at it in Uecker's terms. Steinbrenner offered him the Yankees. Uecker never, never, never entertained leaving. "But I went to the dinner because I wanted to see what they pay those guys in New York."

Anybody who has never been to Milwaukee comes to us with a similar reaction: "Why the hell didn't I know this was here?"

Milwaukee is an underrated city, sir.

Counsell was born and raised locally. He still lives there. He was a Brewers bat boy. He played for them. It's a unique situation. But it's also the way he did it. He talked out of both sides of his mouth while negotiating with the Cubs behind the team's back.

Paul Sullivan in the Tribune this morning. Dumb as hell. Milwaukee thanks Chicago for burning down in 1871, which made it the beer capital of the world. Beyond that they appreciate being so near to Chicago. They don't resent it. If anything they want to be more like the Milwaukee of 1960.
Sullivan's theory that Milwaukee fans resent Chicago as a world class city, while Milwaukee has The Fonz, and they should get over losing Craig Counsell.

I am told it was a false alarm, and she is well. Even so.

There is some suggestion Dolly Parton is less well than she might have presented. I know you join us in thinking of her.
