📢Fully Funded PhD position in Barcelona!

I'm excited to announce that I’m opening a PhD position at @idibaps.bsky.social, Barcelona!
We'll investigate the role of bodily signals in autobiographical memory, using virtual reality, EEG and TMS, in healthy volunteers and patient populations.

I recently discovered the series Pantheon. The plot around the mind and machines is really cool 🤖

I receive several requests of collaboration. Please don't take it personal if I decline your invitation. I'm just trying to keep coherence on my outputs, but I'm also being extra cautious, since a recent collaboration where I was kicked out without clear reason at the moment of manuscript writing.

More indexed conference proceedings. Every time I see people failing at demonstrating Klimesch brain-body frequency architecture or cardiac-phase stuff is in conferences.

Ah ha! Many consciousness studies might just not be valid, or at least exaggerated. Who would have thought that about this very healthy, pluralist and friendly field of research

🎉 Our paper "Criterion placement threatens the construct validity of neural measures of consciousness" is now out in eLife! 🎉
TL;DR: Both simulations and empirical data show that you should not post-hoc sort neural data based on subjective measures of consciousness.

Just published our study on brain-heart interactions and COVID-19. We found that brain-heart interactions at the ICU onset indexes mortality risk and acute encephalopathy duration. We also found that maladaptive dynamics are associated with acute cognitive impairment 👾

[COVID19] Hermann et al: These findings highlight the potential of brain–heart interactions as an integrated marker for autonomic function in critical care, offering a more accurate assessment of patient severity and outcomes compared to isolated cardiac or brain measures. doi.org/10.1016/j.cl...

Saw this before as a preprint... We already knew that when we inhale, the whole brain (and body) "activates". So, I don't really get this "discovery". Probably because I'm not a fmri person. Maybe some of my interoception peeps can illuminate me? 🧐 www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Autonomic physiological coupling of the global fMRI signal - Nature Neuroscience
The brain and body are necessarily connected. Here the authors show that brain blood flow and electrical activity are coupled with systemic physiological changes in the body.
