They definitely had it in mind in 1868, too. The wording is carefully drafted to include electors in the list of things you can be disqualified from, even though it's not on the list of past oaths you can break to become disqualified, because electors uniquely don't actually have to take that oath.

The disability is to be judged by whoever is in position to judge the qualifications for office in any given case

IN PRINCIPLE I think that Congress at the counting of the Electoral College could properly have done it. The Framers probably would have expected the electors themselves to do it

It is going to be really important especially since they are talking about the insurrection act to at least attempt to figure out how this might work. There should definitely be a balance but it's also not removing freedom in the same way a criminal trial would.

I think at the minimum given Trump is trying to use the armed forces against elected representatives it should at least be discussed as part of our constitution. We havent had a situation like January 6th since the Civil War. We haven't had organized insurrection in other cases of political violence

I don't think it needs an actual vote to happen. In my mind this disqualification is something that should just apply. We had an insurrection and the investigation got shut down by the people involved. The founders understood complex conspiracies which is what that was and is.

He did do an insurrection. In my mind, this applies to everyone who was part of that atrocity. He should be simply disqualified as a President, and so should his coconspirators in power.

The great thing is it puts a 2/3 vote as a remedy so people could be immediately removed from office and the people not involved in the insurrection would get to decide if they can get their office back. A truth and reconciliation process could be done. America needs to heal as a nation.

There are many videos of happy-looking people during WW2. There are images of people smiling who would be dead shortly after. The suffering doesn't vanish if it's off camera. The joy isn't fake just like the trauma isn't. Taking small moments and twisting them to deny atrocities isn't a good look.

I hope it's true. As a father seeing so many young lives destroyed and such suffering has weighed on me this entire time. I've had nightmares and many sleepless nights over the cruelty of it all. All children deserve to be free and happy. All adults deserve to be free and have a future.

This is a really cool idea. Buying land just to give nature space is beautiful. I have this idea about making space for people to live via electric reefs. You can make structures that will last in the open ocean using just iron and a small current. So it's space for people and creatures.

I hate to tell you this, but if you are a disabled inventor there is essentially no path to getting something going. I went to a patent attorney and they wanted more money than I could even have legally just to get started. The only people allowed to invent work for corporations and they own it all.

I think a non-profit asteroid mining corporation could do a UBI. I have plans about how that could happen. We could do an orbiting space station above Mars to make Earth normal gravity and the role could be to process asteroids and study them at the same time. Basically store material at L1 Lagrange

Neither machines nor immigrants take jobs away from people. It's the corporation that makes decisions based on "market forces" that they themselves create. If your a professional artist then your job is using the threat of AI to pressure you as the perfect scab, but the AI isn't deciding to do that.
