Back at the Proms for an exciting programme: Varese's Intégrales, a world permiere of
Anna Thorvaldsdottir's Before we fall (Cello Concerto), Bolero, as fresh as the first time I heard it (it makes such a difference to see the instruments), and Rite of Spring.

Bayes has followed me around through my career but I don't think I'll find a Bevis Marks connection. Very interesting story if you don't know about the Somers Town estate. www.hamhigh.co.uk/news/2531696...

This is cheering stuff, I think despite everything a lot of things do still work well. Our fantastic museums crop up regularly but of course to keep working they need ongoing investment.

So,as a little thought-experiment, tell me something about the United Kingdom that works well and is actually quite impressive. I am not trying to sound like some boosterish politician. I just genuinely believe that making people believe that all is lost is a convenient pretext for shady characters.

Every time I hear “women are too emotional to be President/CEO/Commander-in-Chief/etc.” I’ll think of these guys and laugh to tears

I'm just glad one of these men has the nuclear codes and the other has all our personal data.

Breaking news: The sell-off erased $153bn from Tesla’s value, the biggest one-day drop in the electric-car company’s market capitalisation on record, and comes as Donald Trump threatens he will terminate US government contracts with Musk’s companies. www.ft.com/content/a14f...

I wrote about the shooting at the Jewish museum in DC, the stories people tell to justify anti-Semitism, and the choice that America faces in this moment. Gift link:
A Dangerous Disguise for Anti-Semitism
The suspect who allegedly shot and killed two Israeli-embassy aides invoked the Palestinian struggle as a pretext to harm Jews.

Its diversity was so rooted in female experience (I didn't think the Ravilious works really added anything). Very enjoyable!

I caught the Tirzah Garwood show at Dulwich Picture Gallery which closes next weekend - as well as paintings, prints, embroidery & a patchwork quilt, there is a fabulous group of marbled papers that she made in the 30s & sold commercially for book binders, and interior design uses like lampshades.

Initially established by Lady Rothschild to support the children of Jewish refugees fleeing the Eastern European pogroms they grew to become central to Jewish life in the East End in the middle of the 20th century. At their peak 200 young people an evening went to their activities.

I had never heard of Brady Clubs until I saw the fascinating film One Pair of Eyes in which Georgia Brown goes back to Whitechapel where she grew up. An exhibition of photographs, rescued from a skip, is now at Tower Hamlets archive www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00t3mkz

#OnThisDay in 1785 Joseph Bramah invented the beer pump handle, cheers! 🍻

In Experience Barnsley you can see a couple of objects by Barnsley's most prolific inventor; a fire pump and one of his unpickable locks.

Love them! We used to have them for special occasions when I was a child, no idea why we don't make them any more.

Not sure I follow - I and all the Americans I know live here because we have commitments here (family/jobs) and generally love it. And we pay UK accountants handsomely to sort our tax returns.

That is wonderful.
