This is definitely an authoritarian move. Our country is in deep trouble with this administration's actions.
Under the DC Home Rule act, Trump is allowed to federalize DC police during an emergency (which doesn’t exist right now), but only for 48 hours. This can possibly be extended to 30 days with notice to Congress, but it’s also subject to judicial review.
