💧 Water security is under threat as extremes become the new normal.

The map below shows that around 60% of rivers globally had either too much or too little water, a clear sign of an increasingly unpredictable and erratic hydrological cycle.

The E.U. is mandating the treatment of micropollutants in wastewater, with the cost to be borne by polluters.

But the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, which are responsible for most of those contaminants, are pushing back.

Cancelled my direct debit. I’ll pay what I can, that I deem sensible. Thames Water hiked my bill up from £19 per month to £50 per month. I haven’t started using a gazillion more gallons per month so I don’t wish to subsidise their bonuses or dividends thank you very much.

Water bills for England households to rise even higher.

Bills already up by 36%. Competition regulator permits another 1%-5%, £556m hike

No curbs on exec pay, dividends, sewage dumping as companies raise capital from customers, shareholders get returns.

End the Scam. Nationalise water
Five water firms provisionally allowed to raise bills by further 1% to 5%
An independent group appointed by the competition watchdog rejected nearly 80% of increases sought by companies.

Agroecology isn't something I'm at all familiar with. But the combination of this #internet-observatorium 's use of maps, data, really makes it fun to engage with the topic.

We took to the streets of London to remind govt that #overfishing is a political choice, & they have the power to stop it 🎣

BREAKING: Brexit has done nothing to stop the sharp decline in UK fish populations.

Politicians have consistently set catch limits too high and allowed international trawlers to plunder our seas.

So much for putting our coastal communities first.

New research shows no one is immune to the plastic and chemical pollution crisis ❌

A shocking new study shows that every European minister tested had PFAS, toxic ‘forever chemicals,’ in their blood.

This investigation is another wake-up call to the dangers of plastics to human health.
EU ministers test positive for forever chemicals in their blood
PFAS were found in the blood of all the EU ministers sampled, the tests found.
