to ward off burnout and frustration because you know you have people to reach out to beyond just googling something or checking stackexchange.

It's not so much networking to get a job, but networking to help you grow in your current one by being part of a community.

some advice or help from that sector, well, ya know a person! If you need help with a piece of code, are you stuck on an issue with software or data, do you just need advice on workflow, or even a question about how to handle workplace issues, the ones with a robust, active membership greatly help..

are the ones with an active membership - Active in events, active in trainings, active in the forums, active in mentorship and troubleshooting.

The ones that meet frequently so that you can meet people in your field, but more importantly, outside of your little bubble so that if you ever need...

I'm a big believer in value for my bucks. So many orgs simply do, well, nothing! They look nice on a resume, they all have job boards that are barely functional, and some will offer discounts to training no one really wants. It's sad really.

The GOOD ones, the ones worth paying for...

Incredible tough but important read. I was in CJSOTF-A in 2012. Reading here about my then commanders and new context to what was happening to the left and right of our task force.

Bales, Gant, Haas, Kunduz, Thomas...
Hell of a trip down memory lane...

The entire city of Kotzebue, Alaska, is being evacuated for potential record coastal flooding. Kotzebue is the "hub" community for northwest Alaska. @alaskawx.bsky.social

Captain, there are doubts
Regarding
Your ability
To lead them

There are doubts in your ability
There's too many blanks in your analogies

The enemy turns captain
The captain turns civilian
The lieutenant becomes casualty

The good news is that when you feel like reading, they're there waiting for you!

Or you'll get new books to keep them company.

Either way, it's a win and you'll go at your own pace and schedule l!

I appreciate the offer! We usually just drop them off on our way to go see the Iowa... I mean, as long as we're in the neighborhood right???

But the post got a lot of negative comments, and rightly so! How does an area this large NOT have a collection point??

I picked up that and Jules Roy's book a bit ago but haven't cracked them open yet. (or I think I may have read Roy's but don't remember it.)

An educator leans over a table to get a closer look at a fish in an acrylic tub; the fish is a brown sculpin, its suction-cup like stomach anchoring it in place against the tub's wall. Trays with educational flyers and biofacts can be seen on the table. The educator has long brown hair and is wearing a blue sleeveless shirt, with an expression of interest on their face.

Saw someone from the city post asking people not to dump batteries into the trash, but to drop them off at the nearest recycling center.

Problem is, the nearest recycling center that will accept them is a 40 min drive away.

I don't know many people who will drive 2 hrs to drop off AAs.
