DYK that Canada 🍁 launched its first satellite 🛰️ , Alouette I, in 1962, making it the third country (after the USSR and USA) to design, build and launch its own satellite into orbit.

We’ve been doing this for a while.
On this day in 1994, the Canadian satellites Anik E1 and Anik E2 failed due to a geomagnetic storm. E1 resumed normal function within hours. It took five months to fix E2 and involved building stations on either end of Canada to monitor its position and upload special software.

In 2025, 50% of the globe experienced more days than average of at least strong heat stress – with “feels-like” temperatures of 32°C or higher. 🔥 At the same time, most regions saw fewer cold stress days than average.

Happiness is... a steaming pile of mulch?

Griffith Park has a newish mulch station where you can grab as much green waste as you want, this one more conveniently located in the northwest corner of the LA Zoo parking lot.

One thing I absolutely DISLIKE about Emby is that it doesn't read mp3tags like Ratings. People constantly ask for it and the developers get a major case of ASS attitude that anyone would consider rating their media - which is a totally normal fucking thing dudes.

For myself, I tend to rate...
Music update: I've been using musicbee to organize my songs, and tonight I installed Emby to access them on my phone when I'm out and about or just listening away from my computer. So far so good.

I'm not quite sold on the Emby android app though .... We'll see

In December, we ran a campaign to switch the Sentinel-2A satellite on at night over some specific areas.
The goal was to provide data to help me work out how useful night imaging capabilities would be for next gen Sentinel-2...and the results are wonderful!
