For fiction, there's a bunch of hot-rod pulp novels like Hatchet on the left, but one that I really loved was by Harris. I need to re-read that one since it's been so long.

Miller won the MOH and his book is still really high on my list of greats. Doherty and Flanagan wrote the two best books on being a FAC and working with SOG.

Valor & Plasters books gives you the background and both 100ft and 10,000 ft level view of whats going on, whereas Dynamite and Acres books are some of the best memoirs.

Still pushing on with my reading of the most popular #VietnamWar books and more fiction this year! This is book #3!

Next up I think I'll start Marlantes Matterhorn

Brats Bros... god I miss them! Look at this amazing food! They had all of the different kinds of sausages, even ostrich! And the sides... oh they were incredible.

You have your choices up here... You can sit in a 6 lane parking lot for 2 hrs, or a 2 lane side street parking lot for.... 2 hours.

I think this map is a good explanation of that. These are major cities that all fit within the border of the CITY of LA, not the county, or the SoCal region, just... the city of.

Urban sprawl is a thing!

a few things:
1) I miss those singles compilations you could get from XFM
2) There's some music I liked at one point was based more on who I was around/with and where I was deployed. It wasn't that good then, it's worse now lol
3) The spread across decades definitely paints a picture!

So just an addon to yesterdays comment - we're finally introduced to Trang and this is the complete fleshing out of his character so far.

No Tomlin, No Stefanski, No Harbaugh, ... the AFC north is gonna be so weird 2026.

Just crazy.

I know a lot are loving Tomlin being gone, but I just have a feeling it's gonna be an absolute shit show next... but then again, I'm still bitter about the UCLA coaching changes.

So I'm a few chapters in and the story covers the attack on FOB 4 (sogsite.com/23-august-19...) before the main character gets assigned to Kontum. The writing is pretty good, and I'm enjoying the flow and pace, the stories and the dialog.

One thing that is bugging me is something common in all...

Currently #Reading! Prairie Fire by Kent White.

Feeling a bit of a book hangover after Caputo's Rumor of War and the Things We Carried by O'Brien.

Was trying to figure out what to read next and landed on this action oriented fiction about MACVSOG.

We'll see if it's any good!

BUT...

At the bottom right you'll notice I also keep a copy of my cities Disaster Preparedness Guide and not in the picture is a first aid guide that has great photos for how to use a triangle bandage.

Just in case I'm the one that's hurt and someone else needs to help ME!

In the car I have a large bag (top right) for BIG problems - large burn sheet, large multi-trauma, and airway kit. It's the Oh Shit bag.

I also have a smaller red bag which has all of the gauze wraps, adhesive bandages, ointments, and stuff like that. The grab and go and you're good kit.

I get asked a lot about what I carry in my car kit, and I always reply that the goal is to handle the little things quickly, and easily, or to buy a few minutes until EMS shows up. That means splinter removal tools, sunscreen, blister pads, and stuff to stop bleeds, help burns, and clean scrapes.

First aid guide printed in China that was handed out at an emergency Fair

Everything carried in the car and personal kits.

The goal isn't to be a level 1 trauma center, nor do I live in Mosul.

Minor burns, scrapes, bites, stings, splinters, blisters, and such are the priorities.

Also included is a fan for hot days, ponchos for wet days, emergency blankets for...

It's just after the first of the year so that means time to check on the car and personal first aid just to make sure everything is in stock and nothing is expired!
