“Israeli and foreign sources are telling me in the last hour: "Optimistic about the chances of reaching a deal, entering the critical hours"” - Diplomatic Correspondent Amichai Stein is, now, reporting
avishaybsg.bsky.social
Media sources (and people I’m talking to) are optimistic that agreement on first stage of Gaza deal (centered on hostage release) may be imminent. By the end of the week if not tonight. It can still collapse but the tone is the most positive I’ve heard in a long time. Possibly at all.

Curtis Sliwa (the GOP nominee for NYC mayor) has launched a devastating ad against Andrew Cuomo (still running as an independent) featuring Donna Johnson, who claims that Cuomo's COVID policies regarding nursing homes killed both of her parents.

This hits home with Cuomo's prime demographic.

Democrats should not hold another vote on anything until she is sworn in.

Grijalva: The frustration for me is that it seems as if Speaker Johnson is not willing to swear me in because our politics are a little different, or because I’m going to be the 218th signer—he can just continue to drag this along with no end in sight.

That is not a foundation of our democracy.

Trump is like the kid in “The Sixth Sense” except instead of seeing dead people everywhere, he sees national emergencies. But it’s not because he’s a hysteric. It’s part of the plan to be our king. My latest www.thedailybeast.com/this-is-the-...
This Is the Real Reason Trump's a Disaster Merchant
Declare anyone you like a national security threat. In fact, declare everything a threat to national security that only can be addressed by Draconian measures.

"None — repeat none — of America’s fentanyl has been found to originate from Venezuela. Yet Trump and Pete Hegseth, his compulsively strutting “secretary of war”, insist that the country is fuelling America’s opioid epidemic." Me on Trump's wag the dog script. www.ft.com/content/5b3e...
Venezuela is Trump’s useful enemy
Despite the president’s claims, the South American country is nowhere close to being the US’s biggest drug supplier

The NY Times continues to be the biggest sucker in the world for bad faith bullshit, just so the publisher can claim they're not too liberal and to pretend they'll somehow convince MAGA they're being fair to them.

Despite appearances, this is not a @nytpitchbot.bsky.social joke, it's an actual @nytimes.com column by some Claremont hack who praises Hegseth for his "nuanced vision of the military’s purpose and its relationship to civilian society."

Stephen Miller is portraying opposition to Donald Trump in any form, including by judges issuing legal rulings, as an illegal rebellion, Jonathan Chait argues:

Many Palestinians are clinging to a fragile hope sparked by US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, but suspicions run deep and whether it amounts to anything more than a political maneuver is about to be tested.

“I mean who is for crazy ideas like compassion, tolerance, dignity in retirement, access to healthcare, fairer taxes, cutting down on the number of weapons of war in the basement of the average American home, not cozying up to Russians or, you know, seeking to preserve democracy.” Great piece!

The fact that a vast majority of Americans agree on a wide array of issues and yet our political leaders advance none of them illustrates just how broken our system is. Power has shifted from the majority to a monied-few. How do we win it back? I have some thoughts. open.substack.com/pub/davidrot...
