Been a fan since seeing a mash-up feature of the first serial as a kid. For me, you're absolutely nailing the characters, both in terms of writing and art. Not nostalgia, more like getting back together with old friends.

I think this model may be partly down to the fact that, for a lot of the media and political classes, all the 'lefties' they knew at public school, Oxbridge and ever after were middle class, so . .

Could be the best on-screen rendering of Lovecraft. The use of a silent format to adapt a not-immediately cinematic text was a masterstroke.

Recent reading: fascinating book about an amazing photographer, writer and fearless antifascist activist. In-depth and lavishly illustrated.

Moxon's clear thinking and writing is one of the things that's helping me keep a hold on my sanity at the moment.

"You can't defeat bad ideas by adopting them. You can't grow a coalition by selling out its members." Another useful piece from friend Moxon.

I wrote about why the regrettable conclusions of Ezra Klein pissed me off so badly in the last couple weeks.

On moral cowardice in an era that calls for clarity, and a popular political instinct to try to solve divisions of abuse by ignoring causes. www.the-reframe.com/eventually-y...

Literally everyone I know with indefinite leave to remain is either in the NHS or education - so I’m not sure how they can prove they’ve contributed more to society than they’ve always done. They’ve certainly done more than any no mark Labour politician whose sat on their lazy arse their entire life

I've been watching an excellent Italian TV drama on the rise of Mussolini, and it's hard not to see parallels everywhere. Only Farage can control his followers? Are they really telling themselves that?

The linked document is apparently being circulated in the UK Labour party ahead of their annual conference. It would be pathetic if it wasn't so horrifying.

This 'anonymous memo' has Glassman and Walney's fingerprints all over it and is laden with swivel-eyed conspiracism and paranoiac blade-sharpening. If this is what passes for political insight in the Labour Party, they are beyond saving.

Society is not a savings account. This isn't how anything works, it isn't how anything can work. It's a meaningless bunch of guff designed to appeal to a certain resentful old demographic of racist pensioners.

Rachel Reeves: "We do need a welfare system that is based on the principle of contribution"

What happened to a welfare system based on the principle of need? Or the principle of universalism?

Haven't contributed for whatever reason? Tough.

First sight of this, and it's so much worse than I could have imagined. All kinds of briefcase craziness to pick from, but Schrödinger's middle class is quite something: wedded to both globalist neo liberalism and bureaucratic socialism at the same time.

Sign me up for a book too. Love what you're doing with Flash and the gang, great on so many levels!

One thing I've learned from the Internet is that a lie needs 0% proof to be believed, but the truth requires thousands of pages of proof and still won't be believed.

Kinda aghast at this, even in these times.

Same thing will happen - is happening - with global warming.

This seems quite a crucial insight in understanding politics as it is currently practiced: the belief that "real politics would eventually happen elsewhere."

This is what I was getting at in the post below, and the broader thread (linked). The incoherence of liberal politics and western governments’ stances on Gaza are borne from the same problem; a belief that economics could supersede and negate the political.

Both in the halls of power and corridors of the media, these people all played along, repeating their incantations and sacred chants, in the same way as they do when they defer decisionism to Economy, because they desperately wanted to believe that real politics would eventually happen 'elsewhere'.

Of course, there’s a grander geopolitical strategy at play wrt the West’s support for Israel (see Merz’s recent remarks about Israel doing ‘the dirty work’ for all of them), but on individual levels, these people are just repeating an incantation that’s been hammered into them as the price of entry.

Well now, this is interesting. Could it be that it was the golf course and not the aeroplanes?
