Tracy Chapman. My gf didn't want to go.

Jill Sobule at Club Cafe. Bought tickets 4 months in advance. The 20something at the door wouldn't let us in because it's a bar & my wife - in her 40s! - didn't bring her ID. She was too pissed off to let me run home to get it; I never got to see her after. 😢

I second Emily Henry, especially Funny Story and Beach Read, and I would also recommend Get A life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert, and the two sequels (especially the third.)

Funny enough I don’t love her other works but the Brown Sisters trilogy is really fantastic.

Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, yams, string beans, macaroni & cheese, a roll and potato salad.

And that's just what we packaged in each meal! People were up all night cooking and the camaraderie among all the hard working volunteers was inspirational.

I'm the bald blue guy in the back.

As a kid in Argentina we got seltzer bottles delivered every week.

When we came to the US they were mostly gone; my dad found some that used a small gas canister to create seltzer & I still remember how disappointed I was at the weaker fizz.

Now I have a seltzer maker to recapture my youth. Sorta.

Not one person in a thousand probably remembers archy the free-verse poet reincarnated as a cockroach but unwilling to take the hint. Continued to write poetry by jumping on typewriter keys while the homeowner slept.

I’ve now read several novels by Talia Hibbert; some have been good, some okay. Except these.

I’m now reading Get A Life, Chloe Brown again for the third (fourth?) time and goddam it’s just so fucking funny yet deeply moving.

These are just a whole different level, especially 1 & 3.

Really great.

Happy birthday to the love of my life, my best friend and the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me. (A hat trick!)

We celebrated at Sad Karaoke last night, another unexpected experience she’s brought into my life. Turns out I enjoy singing badly in public, if alcoholic courage is used!

It’s a nice place!

These are the lyrics I sang, apparently serviceably well.

I started it “I went down to Saint James Infirmary” because that’s how I heard him sing it the time I attended one of his final performances, at the Apollo.

I can’t find anything about that concert online but it had Natalie Cole as warmup!

I can carry a tune but my voice and range aren't great, and I'm too self conscious to sing in public, so Karaoke is NOT my thing.

But tomorrow night we're hitting Sad Karaoke, where the DJ only allows sad songs ("if you're not sure the song is sad enough, it's not"). It's my wife's birthday wish!

For those unfamiliar, he did it for reconnaissance.

Got back by jumping off onto an enemy cannonball, correctly assuming it would be aimed at his starting position.

I know for certain that my employer values my contribution because I've been late for work almost every day for decades & after the first 14 years they stopped talking to me about it. 👍 😀

Today I was ACTUALLY EARLY because if I drove in at my usual time I'd have had to stand outside in 23° winds.

After RFK scampered away…

Remember when a person fainted in the audience and President Obama rushed offstage to catch her?

I always use the same first word (because in my heart I’m 10 years old) but it very rarely starts this kind of story.

For the first time since I was a little kid, I got soap in my eye while showering.

Turns out, it hurts even more than I remembered!

0/10, do not recommend.
