Jenny Nicholson tweet continues to not miss
@JennyENicholson

How come major film studios keep being like Jared Leto may have allegations, but at least he looks weird, stars in box office bombs, and is not a good actor

Corporations make billions in profit so they can choke smaller businesses to death

Your furry artist shirt maker sells them so they can pay their rent

It's not morally questionable to buy a furry shirt from walmart, it's morally repugnant.

The annoying thing about corporations trying to break into furry spaces is that like.. when corporations do this it's because they want to take control of the space so that they're the only ones who can sell things. They're corporations, they can afford to undercut small creators.

It's the Sonic 3 Badnik from Hydrocity, which got updated in design and modelled for Colors in one of the underwater areas iirc.

not only were they real but they were designed like 10 years earlier in the 1950s in the US

japanese media in particular has a real obsession with them

having an awkward moment of trying to consider to how most politely say 'this concept for this joke wasn't funny the first time i saw it from someone else' to something that keeps crossing my path, although i may simply say nothing instead for the moment

maybe i'll shut up about this sometime, but apparently not for awhile

as said. its bad at what it purports to do. like someone pissed in the wine.

instead of doubling down on applying the technology to what it is good at, they keep trying to use it to replace real people and creatives in over a dozen industries and it produces results that are a complete joke

we are so, so, so so so far past the point of ethical and logical reasons not to use generative AI for creative endeavours that it just isn't funny anymore. they want to normalize it and have it be culturally acceptable so bad, but for those of us who actually make things, it Never Will Be, Now.

there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually

I’m cool with using LLMs for stuff like “writing regexes” but why would I use them to do things my brain actually likes doing and finds rewarding?

why would I outsource eating a really good hamburger to someone else? that’s my fucking hamburger

while I acknowledge that LLMs do have some uses for stuff like “producing code with knowledgeable human supervision,” this perfectly reflects how I feel about using it for my own creative work

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.
