That's why younger folk are such an easy target for this kind of slop. Not much money, not as secure, a little easier to influence. It might just be cheap shit at Hot Topic right now, but that won't always be the case.

The problem is they can go after young people who are desperate for mainstream approval, and use that to flood the market with low grade crap and price artists out of what they do. It's just basic bitch shit, sure, but if enough people buy, it starts to set the standard.

This isn't about acceptance, it's about control. We're a fringe community because we practice radical acceptance. Peoples weirdness and eccentricities - as long as they don't harm other people - are what make our community so vibrant and wonderful.

You see this time and time again with different communities. Look at how Walmart and Amazon destroyed tons of small businesses because they couldn't keep up with their prices. Once they get their disgusting claws into the space, then they can control the narrative and what's acceptible.

The annoying thing about corporations trying to break into furry spaces is that like.. when corporations do this it's because they want to take control of the space so that they're the only ones who can sell things. They're corporations, they can afford to undercut small creators.

And this doesn't even bring up how Lin Manuel Miranda had to explain to the execs what an I Want song is, or how songwriters have to fight to have music relevant to the plot because they get left out of the writers room completely. The process is nuts!

She's so obviously being pushed and pulled by the plot and not by any kind of motivation or problems. It's the same for Moana, and even Elsa/Ana. Elsa had flaws in the first one because Ana was supposed to be the marketable one - as soon as Elsa became popular... no more flaws, all sanded down!

Honestly I think Asha kinda is the culmination of the last few Disney princess movies. Their heroines aren't allowed to have any flaws to the point where they can't even experience problems that would give them character motivations. They're sanded so far down that there's no personality

The villain song was also just.. not great. Bad on its own, worse in context since it's just such a tonal heel turn from the preceding scene. It doesn't make him feel villainous at all!

Also I think Chris Pine was the wrong voice for that role. He sounds so youthful and just like.. not regal or imposing. He does dashing okay, but the timbre of his voice just doesn't feel right for the character of Magnifico

It's kind of crazy. I listened to a lot of the music before watching it, and it was really bad. But it's somehow even worse in situ! The process over there is so fucked up, the music barely has anything to do with the script, which is extremely flawed to begin with. UGH!

Oh god I just watched that with @terryl.bsky.social and @maotenno.bsky.social - it is very bad, hahahah. And the of the least likable protagonists I’ve seen in a while to the point where it almost feels like she’s what sets the villain off to begin with. Poor writing all around!

I feel you. I love doing fantasy stuff and matte painting but it’s by far the least popular stuff I do, even if I include fat furs. It’s discouraging and makes it a little harder to do that kind of thing
