50 years ago today, IDEA was enacted to guarantee special education & related services to children with disabilities from birth-age 21. In the face of dismantling of our federal Dept. of Education, we must continue to fight for IDEA protections in the name of humanity, justice, and civil rights.

The only question we need to ask ourselves with the impact of this proposed carbon capture project is “And how are the children?”

If the answer is anything but “All the children are well,” then we have lost our moral imperative.
@doitjewett.bsky.social Congressional District 1 candidate spoke against the carbon capture and sequestration project. @dncclimate.bsky.social Dems can win on climate!

I am running in Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District next year and these decisions about education are a big reason why. As a special education teacher of 17 years, Rep. Scalise has stood by in the name of executive loyalty and enabled this.
There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

We don’t have a lot of new information regarding the mass firing of the remaining Department of Education employees; it appears the Trump administration has used the government shutdown as an opportunity to finish destroying the department of ed. If there are no employees, it exists in name only.

The 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina was 2 weeks ago & the news cycle covered the storm’s devastation and impact on the city and surrounding regions, especially education. We cannot talk about the education in New Orleans without talking about Hurricane Katrina.

When New Orleans schools reopened after Katrina, most of the city's educators didn't get their jobs back. Instead, they were often replaced with young people who were new to town — and new to teaching.
20 years ago, New Orleans fired its teachers. It's been rebuilding ever since

I was on a call with Democratic House leadership tonight and here’s some info on how we can help:

We all need to flood the zone with information about how horrible this bill is for millions of Americans. Post it & say it everywhere.

20 Republicans have spoken against it.

We need 3 to vote NO

As part of July is Disability Pride Month 🖤❤️💛🤍🩵💚, please call your representatives!!! The Big Beautiful Bill will head from the Senate back over the House now following the U.S. Senate vote this morning. This bill will hurt our kids, families, and members of the disability community. ♾️ 🧠 💜

Most Americans will never get to ask billionaires like Education Secretary Linda McMahon, “what do you need a tax cut for?”

So I asked. Republican officials may think that’s rude. But we deserve to know.

This entire thing is deeply disturbing 😢
UPDATE: Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot and killed, and Senator John Hoffman and his wife were shot and critically wounded.

We must stand united against political violence.
Two Minnesota lawmakers & their spouses were shot by someone impersonating a police officer at their homes. Their conditions are unknown.

Political violence has no place in a healthy democracy. Our hearts go out to their friends, family, & the Champlin & Brooklyn Park communities. buff.ly/xlz9Bf4
