2025 was another great year for African short fiction! Author @wtalabi.com recommends 10 highlights across science fiction, fantasy, and horror, from "magic-for-wealth schemes" to an unsettling religious organization (in space). And if there's some ties in there...? We're not complaining.

This is a sign to read Mad Sisters of Esi, an intricately woven story of two sisters that sweeps you off of your feet with their palpable bond. With settings of nature and magic interwoven in the beautiful prose, you'll never want to put this book down.

losing it at the idea of sugarcane bones. they should do that with real meat. pork ribs but the ribs are sugarcane. chicken cane wings. (I love sugarcane)
Learned about "vegan drumsticks" tonight, which feature a "vegan bone". Internet search has revealed the bone to be typically made out of sugarcane or lemongrass. As evocative as the idea of "vegan bones" is, I am currently more compelled by the larger implication of meatless animals.
