Science, reading & being outside make me happy :) I love running "Dr Dot's Science Club" (Primary after-school) & we have the BEST fun! I also make easy-to-use digital resources to help busy parents & kids do sciencey stuff at home. Science is for sharing!

I've been feeling a bit down lately at the state of the world. Then I remembered. There IS something we can do. Here it is ❤️
1. You feel powerless? Don’t know what you can do to resist the rise of fascism?
Here is an answer: Good Things.
Fascism inflicts pain and harm as a matter of doctrine.
Kindness, care and conviviality defend us from it.
The more we build community, the less it can take root.

Ooh! Going to check this list for my next Audible credit!

Also: Happy 2025!
Since my kids have grown, I read a LOT. This year was no different. I read fiction, non-fiction and in particular, science themed non-fiction in form of physical books, ebooks & audiobooks.

Allow me to share my "read" list for 🧪📚 in 2024: 83 science themed books, 36 written by women.

Mon the Libraries!
📚 Library patrons! Please check out a book you plan to read someday, but not right now. We won’t be able to tell you haven’t read it, it’s good for our metrics, and it prevents good books from getting weeded when they still have a kindred spirit out there.

The other day I came across a thread on FB which was sceptical of the COVID-19 vaccine. I knew some of the people & their view surprised me a bit, which inspired today's Daily Dot.

Always be kind & be respectful ❤️

I hated writing—until I learned there’s a science to it

"So, there I sat, struggling to write these dreadful essays about literary motifs and themes. For hours, I stared at blank pages, trying to turn my scattered thoughts into fluent sentences."

Parents/carers of children taking their GCSEs in Science this year! You will no doubt buy them revision guides etc to help them pass their exams. For just 99p, why not buy them the Kindle edition of this, which provides knowledge and understanding not found in any modern textbook or revision guide:

My first TED-Ed video just passed 1 million views on YouTube! How/why did I make this video? Because @biologycarly.bsky.social did one & told me anybody is allowed to submit ideas, so I did it as a grad student. Give it a shot! It’s a really fun #SciComm experience! 🦑🐟🦈🐠🐡 youtu.be/qWyLtYrTLYo?...

Can we do a #DisabledInSTEM role call please? What's your area of study/work?

I'm Zoë. I've got ADHD and experience anxiety regularly because of it. I'm an analytical scientist, and now manage laboratory facilities at the OU, helping others do their science.

Would love to hear from you all.
