New Zealand's libertarian/ populist/ right wing coalition Government is trying to follow Wesley Streeting's lead in banning puberty blockers.

This is what the New Zealand High Court has just decided (www.courtsofnz.govt.nz/assets/cases...).

This article summarises why the Cass Review is flawed. I tried to articulate some of these arguments to Wes Streeting when I spoke with him - he gave sympathy but obviously didn’t want to take it on board. How can it be used to inform policy?

New on the blog, something I've been meaning to write for a long time. As we get ready for HHS to ramp up its attacks on our care, let's take a minute to remember why it matters: because we do, and we deserve lives worthy of living.
In defense of trans quality of life — Jessica Kant
Today trans people exist in an atmosphere where it has become normal for strangers to demand of us that we extemporaneously provide inarguable, indisputable proof that without very safe medical care w...

Megathread of pro-trans petitions on Parliament’s petition website. If Labour suddenly gets hit with debates for a bunch of pro-trans petitions, maybe they’ll realise this issue isn’t going away and they’ve fucked up.

I’ll add more as I find them.

After hearing the news this morning I jumped on a train and went to my first protest. This poster could have been written for me. It won’t be my last protest.

If you want to know how serious our decline in the UK, when North Carolina did what the Labour Government and EHRC have done, the then UK Government told LGBT+ people to beware travelling there.

Thank you to my (many) professional colleagues who, appalled by the Supreme Court decision, have reached out to offer their help pro or low bono in service of the trans community.

For our amoral political class it's all a game but my colleagues know it's deadly serious.

Absolute mask off for anyone that was wondering if it was still about ‘reasonable concerns…’. He has said a portion of the population are inherently dishonourable/undisciplined/liars. This narrative is wrong, evil and dangerous. I can’t believe what is happening in America
The Chilling Line Trump Just Crossed On Transgender People
With the latest trans military executive order, the administration has given up all pretense of "evidence-based care," and has moved to the kind of dehumanization meant to justify atrocity.

Yet more evidence of the irreversible damage of puberty blockers. Copied from a Christmas card to my daughter from one of her teachers: ‘Dear xxxx, Thank you once again for carrying the Christmas Service and making it a success. I really appreciate the tremendous amounts of time and effort (cont..)

Exactly this. There are no recognised observed harms - only theoretical unproved harms (that no one can articulate) yet PBs are made illegal. Theoretical harms are being preferred over the very real harms the ban is causing.
When is “expert advice” just not?
So yesterday, Wes Streeting announced that the ban on puberty blockers for gender dysphoria was to become permanent, on the basis of expert opinion that they pose an “unacceptable safety risk…

There's a lot about the Cass Review that is unethical, one thing it got right though is the collation of evidence from patients records that showed very clearly that:

1. There is NO evidence that patients have been harmed by puberty blockers

2. Detransition rates are consistantly and EXTREMELY low
Tucked into the Cass Report, deep in the appendices, you'll find that they reviewed thousands of patient records and found no one who'd been harmed by puberty blockers and fewer than 10 detransitions.
It’s even worse knowing that Wes actually met trans kids, listened to them cry about how awful it would be to go through the wrong puberty, how this is a lifesaving treatment, and is fucking doing this anyway

It’s even more heartless than shutting them out of conversations

www.gov.uk/government/c... The results of the consultation. They consulted ‘patients and their families’. My daughter is one of less than 100 kids on NHS puberty blockers - she has been since 12, she is now almost 18; 6 years of valid experience, we’ve been 100% happy with it. We were not consulted.
