Is he in the room with you right now?

I heard that message from Dems before the election too. A huge percentage of the population either voted for this or acquiesced by not bothering to vote against it.

"On this subject, I do not wish to think, or speak, or write, with moderation. ... Tell a man whose house is on fire to give a moderate alarm; ... tell the mother to gradually extricate her babe from the fire into which it has fallen,-but urge me not to use moderation in a cause like the present."

I'm happy with the way things are going; but I'm fully expecting a collapse just on general principles.

The fact that the driver had pepper spray and a knife on him suggests that the job comes with some risks.

CHATGPT: I understand where you're coming from. You worked really hard to get here, and now it's time to enjoy the fruit of your labors.

like, i don't really know how to adequately express the anger that i feel watching this video. not showing your face, lazily teargassing random people on a neighborhood street without getting out of your car - the image says more about these goons than i could articulate bsky.app/profile/clan...

Logan Square neighborhood, Chicago. Man wearing a balaclava in a white, unmarked vehicle, pulls the pin on a tear gas canister and tosses it in the road.

"Just trying to grab some lunch and these fucking losers showed up. FUCK ICE!"

I wish she'd laid into him for trying to ask a question about political gamesmanship rather than the substance of an issue that puts people's lives on the line.

Great summary by @lawdorknews.bsky.social of Judge Young's decision in the case against Kristi Noem and Marco Rubio for violating the First Amendment to our Constitution.

Judge Young's decision is worth reading directly, but 160 pages is a lot.
Judge William Young's ruling against Rubio and Noem is a lesson for all in the Trump era
Young lays bare the unconstitutionality of the Trump administration's student deportation efforts — and issues a challenge to America. Also: More court pushback.

I've never been in the military, but I worked the bag room of a golf course for 5 or 6 years as a kid. This write up reminded me strongly of a couple of assistant pros I knew. They were, in their own estimation, much smarter and savvier than the pro.

This is a fantastic article. Impressive depth and clear writing.

Thirty years ago, a peace-loving Austrian theologian spoke to Peter Thiel about the apocalyptic theories of Carl Schmitt, the German legal theorist tapped by the Nazi's to justify Germany's slip from democracy to dictatorship.

Those theories have been a roadmap for the billionaire

So it is with the nation. It is both foolish and undignified to indulge in undue self-glorification, and above all, in loose-tongued denunciation of other peoples."

In private life there are few things more obnoxious than the man who is always loudly boasting; and if the boaster is not prepared to back up his words his position becomes absolutely contemptible.

TR in 1901: "Speak softly and carry a big stick—you will go far." If a man continually blusters, if he lacks civility, a big stick will not save him from trouble; and neither will speaking softly avail, if back of the softness there does not lie strength, power.

Wait this is actually the best, most succinct explanation I’ve heard. This is just the ultimate season of Celebrity Apprentice. It’s not whether you win, it’s how indelible you make your “character” in the eyes of the public so they’ll listen to your future recap podcast.

And that's the way to understand all these people - Hegseth, Miller, Noem - they're not smart or serious people, they're influencers who see this as a step toward fame. It's like how nobody's on the Bachelor franchise to win, they're on it to reap the clout benefits and become more famous.

Of the general and flag officers hearing Hegseth declare that rules of engagement are stupid and the keys to military success are war crimes and shaving, what percentage are appalled v. into it?

I'm guessing negative outweighs positive by a lot. But there's likely a minority that's thrilled.

The real generational divide is people who refuse to watch a video if it could be an article versus people who refuse to read an article if it could be a video
