Same level of understanding the cultural reference that the wannabe tough guys on ‘MTV Cribs’ had standing in front of their Scarface poster - not grasping that Tony Montana was the bad guy who got high on his own supply, sexually assaulted his sister and then got himself killed like a dumb dumb.

This is a blow up of LA County and the red area is City of LA. The other grey shapes are incorporated cities (most with own emerg services) and the white areas are UNincorporated. Some uninc areas are dense/urban and some are 10k ft mountains or vast deserts.

Driving from the beach and Santa Monica Pier to Paramount would take 1-2 hours and you'd pass through dozens of municipalities (only the red circle would be 'City of LA'), but looking out the window it'd seem like one, endless city if you didn't notice the changing colors of the street signs.
