I think it's noteworthy that the people who say things like "we have to sacrifice some groups to save others" or whatever are never talking about themselves. They never suggest that they should take the bullet for others.

I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.

There are mods and stuff for Final Fantasy 7 that replace the overworld character models. And I understand the impulse, but I fundamentally disagree with the practice. Not the least of which being that people worked really hard on those models and did great things with them, not in spite of them.

See, I think Pokemon is a great example here. Because there are absolutely episodes that shown out of order would really mess things up. But at the same time, there are lots of episodes where altering the order does nothing. It all comes down to which episodes actually get changed.

As an addendum: I am aware that big plot stuff happens sometimes and you have status quo shifts. I just mean that these are a relatively small percentage of the show.

So I've heard, but from what I've seen of the show a lot of it is self-contained episodes. I feel like the worst you'd probably get is Sakura having a card she shouldn't have yet sometimes. Which sucks, but probably doesn't ruin a show of this nature.

All I ever hear about the old Cardcaptors dub is that it was bad because it messed with the story and took out the gay stuff. And that second thing is bad. But the first is treated as a given without anyone looking at the presented story and what it accomplishes, if anything.

Now, in Montgomery County, Maryland, where the case originated, the results are in.

Only 43 families out of 160,000 students have exercised that new right.

Games of the past were deeply-flawed and "aged poorly" for lots of reasons that you could write a book about.

But I'm not willing to wholesale write them off as inferior or outdated. Even if the appeal was and is niche, there was something special about those times and that should be respected.

Mario RPG was born in a very specific point in time that's hard to recapture. Mario (the character and the general concept/vibe of the series) had never looked like that before and would never look like that again.

I've come to appreciate how much ZM can be broken open if you know how, but that's also a very different thing fron Metroid 1.

To get lost with no easy way of tracking where you are is a scary thing, and learning the land entirely on your own feels special like no game since.

Hell, there was a western cartoon sequel to Speed Racer that did the same thing.

School works as a setting because most everyone has been to school so there's relatability.

It's as much a limit as a boon, but such is the way of things.
