A really funny bit on it is part of their justification for having an empty train run instead of allowing passengers on is because they believed that allowing passengers on would harm service performance
ORR reverses Avanti West Coast’s Manchester–London ‘ghost train’ plan
Plans to ban passengers from the peak train service between Manchester and London are abandoned.

kinda annoying that so many modern EVs are all about trying to showcase a bunch of pointless futuristic junk and i don't know of any ev being made now that's just 'this is a pretty normal car with normal amenities'
keep seeing stuff like the sunken in door handles and the weird cabins and asking why

I knew where it was all going with hardware prices (lesson learned from crypto and COVID), so I've built a new PC this March after only using laptop for a few years. It still sucks to see this mess happening again, gaming became unaffordable for a lot of people.

An entire PS5 now costs less than 64GB of DDR5 memory, even after a discount — simple memory kit jumps to $600 due to DRAM shortage, and it's expected to get worse into 2026
You can spend $50 more to get an entire PS5 Pro.

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

you ever wonder if all the hoopla around those 'core x86/64 CPU vulnerabilities' to force the TPM into the mainstream were a scam to get mass surveillance normalized?

i think if you want to have those disgusting LED headlights on your car, you should have to do a test where they blast you point blank with your own headlights and then you have 15 seconds to successfully complete some sort of vision-based task, and if you can't do it they push your car off a cliff

When you hear someone say we can’t do active or public transportation in the US, just know we are the global outlier - an aberrant society missing something that the rest of the world has already discovered or never forgot
This is interesting — a recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social

UPS announced 48,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $24M last year.
