When you’re building a house or addition and you don’t budget 15-20% just for design, you may as well add in 30-80% to your construction costs and and 30-100% on to you construction timeline.

Please don’t make this mistake. It’s brutal out here

That would be great. They can stay paused indefinitely.
Shell and other major oil and gas companies have "paused" work "to define a 'net zero' emissions strategy after being told that such a standard would require them to stop developing new oil and gasfields." 🤡

Remember: When Big Oil says that they're part of the solution, they're lying.

As a builder we’d always joke about someone getting injured in some horrific way, but safety was always top of mind.. our weird way of working through the risks of working in a dangerous environment. You don’t deregulate safety.
Trump’s Labor Department is aiming to rewrite or repeal 60+ regulations, including:

-Minimum wage for home health care workers
-Protections for migrant farm workers
-Construction & mine safety
-OSHA’s ability to punish employers for unsafe workplaces

The "pro-worker” president.

When it comes to accessibility, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is seen as the gold standard, but in reality it’s a floor, not a ceiling for accessible design

I haven’t found AI to be consistent or useful as a design or conceptual tool, but having an LLM backstop basic office tasks has been a game-changer

In talks about a project proposing an #earthenfloor. IMO this is the pinnacle of natural building. Walls and roofs are easy compared to your ground contact points- which require special consideration. especially in colder regions.

We use Concrete more than any other material in western building. It is everywhere, and it has a huge carbon cost! Concrete has some incredible benefits that make it difficult to replace, but we’re shifting a whole industry here. No one said it’s going to be easy.

There is a huge opportunity for cultural shift to save tons of energy and money using these passive strategies. The work is to compile, educate, and distribute them as widely as possible.

For every ton of biomass in your Hempcrete build, the hemp has sequestered 1.63 tons of C02. Then, the lime continues to carbonize decades, actively pulling carbon from the air as it ages!

I’ve been trying to keep this account out of politics but the wholesale, asymmetrical, nationwide destruction by the right makes that impossible.

Isn’t there some island these children could reign over while the adults take back control?

I heard they’ve got a fondness for Epstein’s old place…
"The Trump regime just censors scientific information it does not like, even though the American taxpayers paid for it.

Any info that reveals the consequences of the fossil fuel business model is suppressed.

They prefer a population of ignorant sheep."

I’ve done it! The Hempcrete demo wall is done and loaded up for the show. I ran out of lime which is fine because at 2’ tall this thing already weighs well over 200lbs without the water weight!

Since 1980, there have been over 400 weather disasters in the US, with total damages over $1 billion.

These disasters have cost $2.9 trillion in total and killed nearly 17,000 people.

Don't tell me we "can't afford" to address the climate crisis.

The truth is we can’t afford not to.

Day 3 of actually working on the Hempcrete project. I’m using more lime than anticipated, tweaking the recipe as I go. This 18” deep wall will have an R value well above 30, and that’s just the start of its benefits

Continuing my push to bring #hempcrete to #nh. I’ve got some hempcrete blocks ready for an upcoming trade show! You can build with these like CMUs but you still need framing as they’re not structural.
July 2, 2025 at 1:32 PM
Because I don’t do it every day, I forget how much #stickframing is just like building with giant sponges
June 30, 2025 at 9:48 PM
First 1/2wall frame is up! This one is 16oc 2x6 which is pretty typical for standard walls around here. Next up is the #hempcrete frame

I’m putting y,all on notice! We’re bringing real #greenbuilding to the #granitestate! Im building a demo #hempcrete wall for upcoming trade shows. Stay tuned!

These massive wildfires in Canada are highlighting the fact that nearly everywhere is susceptible to wildfire.

Standard design and construction practices do not produce resilient buildings and it’s time to make some noise about it
