I don't have a fully worked out theory. But eugenics has always been part and parcel of US biomedicine, only thinly papered over with concepts like deservingness. US medicine has been happy to support torture, sterilization, and rogue experimentation.

It's worth noting that these antivaxxers are NOT marginal. They are credentialed and come affiliated with US medicine's most prestigious institutions: UCSF, Stanford, Columbia, Hopkins, Harvard.

So what happened?
