Alert! ... for the child development world!

@fluxsociety.bsky.social @fitngin.bsky.social

The Healthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study has released its first data wave - it’s massive.

Check here:

and here:

Here’s why it matters 🧠🍼

After the initial externalization testing where we confirm engagement of the individual networks by isolating behaviors, optimization and treatment include the entire symphony of networks. We think this is important to cover vast heterogeneity in TRD. We are testing spatial optimization too though.

super cool (& inspiring)! Finally read this and was wondering, for chronic stimulation (beyond initial 3-day electrode mappings), were all 4 electrode panels stimulated simultaneously? or were they isolated and that could vary with optimization? (didn't catch in paper, curious about PFC specificity)

Hello all, see below! Let’s support Russell support our kids and @umn-midb.bsky.social…take a read! 👇🏾👇🏾

Inspired by a personal health journey, our teammate Russell is competing in the Madison Ironman on Sept. 7 to raise funds for the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain.

Join him in supporting brain health ➡️ z.umn.edu/RussellIronmanMIDB
A man (Russell) wearing a light blue button-up shirt, green hiking pants, sunglasses, and a hat smiles at the camera. He is holding two hiking poles and stands on a rocky mountain path. In the background, there is a large, snow-capped mountain peak. A family of three smiles at the camera for a portrait. A man in a dark blue shirt (Russell) stands on the right, with a woman in a black floral dress on the left. A young girl with reddish-blonde hair stands in front of them, smiling. They are standing in front of a body of water at sunset.

Is precision functional brain imaging in babies possible? YES! We show this in not one but two new preprints out of WashU and @umn-midb.bsky.social! 1️⃣: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... 2️⃣: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

FYI all. Anyone having issues with downloading our preprints I believe can still get to them when logged in. We also have some alternative links. Please reach out if you are having any issues.

Due to a recent influx of problematic submissions, PsyArXiv has switched to pre-moderating its content. If your submitted preprint had not yet been approved, it will be temporarily inaccessible to the public (you can still view your preprint when logged into your OSF account). #PsychSciSky

A truly spectacular demonstration of the medical potential of precision mapping an individual patient's brain. I am so excited to be part of this work!

From 20+ failed treatments to lasting remission.

After decades with treatment-resistant depression and two near-fatal suicide attempts, “Mike” found relief through Precision Functional Mapping and adaptive cortical stimulation developed at the University of Minnesota

These are the types of stories we need to be telling right now. This is the science that the world (no, the US) needs to see.

It's the between space- fMRI methods development meets neuromodulation, and you know you have something real when anybody can see it in a patient video. Share this video!

I've been thinking a lot about the preprint in terms of my own career. I grew up academically in computational labs. My papers were abstract early on and they only got more abstract as I progressed. The model was: find a new exciting mathematical tool. Apply it to brain imaging data. Write it up. 1/

electrodes can stay forever though like anything they can slowly degrade over time! We have some patients with electrodes in their brain for more than 20 years!

Wow, that is amazing! I’d have a practical question: how long can the electrodes stay inside?
