28. David Lowery - The Palace Guards

Outstanding from start to finish. Try Marigold or Ah You Left Me. One of my favorite artists, bar none.

29. Lloyd Cole & the Commotions - 1984-1989

I’m cheating here because it’s his ‘best of’ from this five year period, but it’s how I got into him and why I’d recommend him to you. Great songwriter.

30. Supertramp - Breakfast In America

These guys were so talented and they put it all together on this classic album from the last ‘70s

31. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run

Without this one, everything before and since would have been niche. It’s a pretty incredible masterpiece, with the title track, Thunder Road, Backstreets, and Jungleland all the most epic songs of most other people’s careers.

32. Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians - Queen Elvis

This guy is terrific. Clever, interesting, multi-talented. And this is my favorite album from him.

St. Viateur won ‘best Montreal bagel’ (not a slam dunk - best NY bagel went to place in Dallas) and ‘best international bagel’ at BagelFest 2025This can only mean one thing. Fairmount Bagel was too busy serving customers to participate in this charade.

33. Bright Eyes - I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning

Terrific album as usual from these guys. ‘First Day of My Life’ is one of my favorite tunes of any genre by any band. Gorgeous.

34. Steve Forbert - Streets of This Town

Most people haven’t heard of Forbert, and for those who have this isn’t likely their favorite album. Produced by E Street bassist Garry W Tallent, this is an uptempo rock album with some touching songs that goes well with Springsteen’s stuff from the ‘80s.

35. Bill Fay - Life Is People

41 years between albums and coaxed back into service by fan Jeff Tweedy of Wilco - this album is an amazing testament to enduring talent.

The U.S., a country still made up of largely nice people somehow suddenly helpless to assist each other let alone anybody else, has become so cruel it’s hard to reconcile even if you pause to think. So far off its pre-2016 path / sanity that it’s honestly overwhelming. apple.news/AR_Y4DcIKSBS...

36. Bruce Springsteen - Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ

Bruce’s debut is more experimental and wordy (think Dylan) than he’s accustomed to be but it’s a terrific start with amazing stuff (Lost, For You, Growin’ Up, Saint) mixed in with good and a few stickers (Mary, Angel). But overall… awesome.

37. Randy Newman - Trouble in Paradise

Newman’s songs can be hit or miss but they hit more often than they miss and when they hit they are funny, satirical, sad, nostalgic, observant, and set to orchestral arrangements backboned by his piano. Possibly my favorite lyricist.

38. Cyndi Lauper - She’s So Unusual

Full of hits and Lauper has one of the best voices out there - and has always marched to the beat of her own drummer. Respect.

39. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Southern Accents

Sometimes what is favorite depends on where and how you heard it. This was my first Petty album I listened through (versus knowing the hits). Saw him on this tour. Hooked up with a crush. Don’t Come Around Here No More is awesome. Etc.

40. Lou Reed - New York

A picture perfect tribute to late 1980s / early 1990s NYC and the broader world at the time. Just an incredible, gritty, moving, and lyrically descriptive piece of art.

If you are a music person please give my friend’s album a listen. Super talented multi-instrumentalist that knows how to put it all together. Tons of efforts with wind instruments, strings, etc… deserves your time. I love it.

41. Cracker - S/T

Debut album is great start to finish. Not sure they ever topped it.

42. Houndmouth - Little Neon Limelight

What a two album run these guys went on. Sadly, the whole thing has fallen apart because of interpersonal issues but we still have this gem. Wish I’d seen them live during this era.

43. Norfolk & Western - The Unsung Colony

Full set of instruments and talented musicians supporting the great and unheralded / unknown Adam Selzer… love the background singer’s contributions too.

44. Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA

An album so packed that my three favorite songs weren’t one of the seven that were released as singles (No Surrender, Downbound Train, Bobby Jean). The album made him so famous it was uncool to like him for 15 years.

But the league has a huge conigent of fans over there
November 11, 2025 at 2:27 AM
45. Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head

Spare me your hate; this is a great album and the band is tight and talented even though their later stuff is not my thing.

sometimes I feel like I don’t have any luck at all. why can’t I get shot by a six-year-old?
