A report commissioned by Alberta's electric system operator shows big investors' faith in the province as a stable and predictable place to invest "has been significantly undermined in recent years." That's especially true when it comes to renewables. #ableg #cdnpoli

‘Alberta is disincentivizing renewables’: report | The Narwhal
Confidence in Alberta’s energy market has been undermined by the ‘sheer volume and pace of regulatory and policy changes,’ major financial backers say

It has happened. A potential
source said I should first ask Chat GPT questions so we weren’t “starting from zero.” Which ignores years of my in depth reporting on a complex subject, and also it’s a complex subject, and also what the fuck? No.

Alberta's new electricity market is a further blow to renewables and could increase power bills. All of the uncertainty created by the government and the new market reforms have also put a chill on investment. We break it down. thenarwhal.ca/alberta-rest... #ableg #cdnpoli

Between the purge of late night comedians, Trump allies buying up TV networks, Hollywood studios and social media platforms, and news organizations getting slapped with multi-billion dollar lawsuits, there is a full-court press to dismantle the information systems propping up American democracy
ABC Suspends ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ “Indefinitely” Over Charlie Kirk Comments
The network’s decision comes after affiliate group Nexstar said it would pull the late-night show, and the chairman of the FCC suggested he might take action against ABC.

Rumours aplenty (and an NDP press release) that the UCP is going to announce major changes to Alberta's industrial carbon price. Will they kill it? Or reform? Here's our piece looking at their plans earlier this year. #ableg #cdnpoli thenarwhal.ca/alberta-indu...

An industry association email obtained by The Narwhal lays out the plans it says the government presented to scrap or dramatically diminish its carbon price plan

I attended an interesting meeting in rural Alberta. There was anger, and there was a government official calling Alberta's layered problems with oil and gas a "giant stinking pile of shit," and saying he was "mortified" by parts of the regulator. #ableg #cdnpoli thenarwhal.ca/alberta-oil-...

B.C. just approved one of its largest LNG projects yet.

Ksi Lisims LNG will ship 12M tonnes of gas a year overseas. Ministers say it will benefit the Nisg̱a’a Nation — but also admit it will worsen greenhouse gas emissions.

Don’t know who made this but thank you
Baudrillard’s 4 stages of simulacra applied to pumpkin spice

Stage one (next to picture of pumpkin): Initially the sign (image or representation) is a reflection of basic reality

Stage two (next to picture of pumpkin pie): the sign masks a basic reality. The image becomes a distortion of reality

Stage three (next to Starbucks pumpkin spice latte): the sign marks the absence of basic reality. The image calls into question what the reality is and if it even exists

Stage four (next to jug of pumpkin spice flavored coffee mate): the sign bears no relation to any reality whatsoever; it is it’s own pure simulacrum

The number of people needed to produce a barrel of oil has been declining since 2012 -- and no, it isn't Ottawa's fault (it's happening in Texas too).

If we want to create jobs in the future, they have to be jobs *of* the future. #cdnpoli #abpoli

The ‘de-manning’ of Canada’s oilsands sector
Canada's oil and gas industry has been getting less labour-intensive for more than a decade now. When will our elected officials finally acknowledge that — and its obvious implications for the future?

I think if I just spent my time writing insane project proposals for things that include hyperloop, crypto, small modular reactors and CCUS all in one, I could be rich without doing a thing.

Which, if true, raises the question: why are we about to be charged $100 for a dose?
drewanderson.bsky.social
How much does a COVID vaccine dose actually cost government? Because it would appear the Alberta government isn't sure. From their press release:

"401,000 doses went unused or expired, costing over $44 million based on the Center for Disease Control estimated cost of a single vaccine dose."
