"His manners are as bad as his grasp of the issue involved" — some rando in the LH comments section

I think Obama, Schumer, Harris, Hillary Clinton et al don’t like Mamdani only because they disagree with him politically.

They HATE that he exposes their game of feigned helplessness and fecklessness bsky.app/profile/darr...
Can we please make it our baseline standard to elect politicians who want to improve our lives

this is absolutely busting my brain, I think you're so right and have never thought about it in this context before — it's absolutely a weird perversion/warping of "seize the means of production" to all of this

I had that theme song on playlists for years — was not until relatively recently that I realized that song must've been written on spec for that show, that it wasn't by like a "real" band.

I'm rewatching it for the first time probably since it ended as my wife watches for the first time and I don't think I realized how formative this show was for me lol

Not built BY artists, with their own ideas and energies and thoughts and powers, to be met and engaged with and challenged by... but FOR consumers, to keep as many eyes on it for as long as possible, and if you fail to keep me, clearly that was YOUR fault not mine.

This is why lots of people, more people than you'd care to believe, don't think anything of using AI to craft an image or some text or whatever—because they've been taught to expect constant entertainment, on demand, and that it should be cheap or free, and that it is built FOR THEM.

Some of it feels like an off-shoot of lazy literary pedagogy that was rampant in schools at least when I was in them ("is the baseball bat in FENCES actually symbolic of his masculinity?" man, I guess?) but I think it's also a sign of further distancing, culturally, from the work of creative craft.

that's for the sign
