In other news, I think I've finally managed to replace all the missing Vit B12 that my body chose not to absorb in the last few years - I seem to have the capacity to cope with social media again.

I suspect there's more testing going on post 2020, but still a remarkable graph. Oh for those blissful days in 2020/21 in Australia when we all kept our distance/wore masks etc
Annual totals.
2025 is highlighted with a pink dot indicating its total is still being updated.
🥇2025🥇 is the biggest year on record, in terms of lab detections of # flu -infected people (without defining severity). Having said that, these *are* sick people getting tested.

Just a quick update on flight safety. It's on everyone's minds and I would like to provide a very important statistic.

So far, in 2025, we have had the most aircraft related fatalities in the US since 2001.

And yes, we are referring to 9/11.

It's only May.

Wow, it gets even sillier.
The stupidity in Trump’s new tariffs is apparently limitless.

He has introduced a 10% tariff on the British Indian Ocean Territory.

The only inhabited island there is Diego Garcia, home to US service personnel.

TRUMP HAS PUT A TARIFF ON A US MILITARY BASE

This is incredible. The "reciprocal tariffs" were calculated without actually looking at anything to do with tariffs.

This is the most amateur-hour crap you can imagine and it's going to straight tank the global economy.
james surowiecki has discovered where the completely fabricated trump tariff rate has come from for each country

"...for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us."

It keeps being reported that the ACCC Inquiry into Supermarkets found no evidence of price gouging going on.

But the reason it didn't find any was because IT WAS NOT EXAMINING IF THERE WAS ANY PRICE GOUGING GOING ON!!!

In Australia, death by suicide or homicide is not counted in work health and safety fatality datasets. Nor is death that occurs travelling to and from work.
Those are the main ways that healthcare workers die.

We are not being counted in the national data sets for workplace safety.
A deeply moving tribute by @amandipsidhu.bsky.social to his brother.
As well as burnout, moral injury and chronic illness are playing into an ailing NHS workforce.
This story demonstrates the tragic impact of overwork, lack of support and a toxic corporate culture.
We need to care for the carers.
This is a fiercely sad and damning piece about the reality of one of our most admired professions. What a terrible fate for a dedicated man www.the-londoner.co.uk/nhs-doctor-s...

FINALLY!
Next year, the EU will require cars to have buttons & dials -- not just touchscreens -- to get a top safety rating.

This is a great move. Drivers can fiddle with knobs & buttons without taking their eyes off the road, but they can't do that with touchscreens.

(Even better: Tesla will hate this)
Cars will need fewer screens and more buttons to earn five-star safety rating in Europe
Euro NCAP will release new testing guidelines in 2026.
