Had a wonderful time today celebrating #PSYCGoodDeedDay2025. Greatly appreciated how many good deeds involved delicious treats! And all our new students are now CPR trained. Thanks to GASP for organizing our event!

The Nobel Prizes, 5 of 6 having so far gone to US based scientists, are a reminder of why we must stand up for science against this horrid administration. Here are some great Scientist Activists to follow.

NSF GRFP is out 2.5 months late w/key changes

1. 2nd year graduate students not eligible.

2. "alignment with Administration priorities"

3. Unlike prior years, they DO NOT specify the expected number of awards... that is a BIG problem.

Today's the day: Your taxpayer dollars are now being used to fix up a “free” plane Qatar “gifted” to Donald Trump.

Up to $1 BILLION going to a plane that Trump's planning on keeping after he leaves office.

So much for getting rid of waste, fraud, and abuse.

The September CR needs to do more than fund NIH, CDC, EPA, USDA, FEMA, AHRQ, FDA, and so many more critical public health and safety agencies. It needs to include language that prevents harmful decision-making based on partisan politics rather than science.

The psych job market may not be dead... but it is gravely injured 😬 So far it's looking like the Trump administration's attacks on higher ed/research are going to have more than 2x the impact on the job market as the covid-19 pandemic. #psychjobs #neurojobs #academicjobs
Bar plot showing the number of psychology jobs posted each year by area. There are major dips in 2020 due to covid, and in 2025 (now).

So, kudos to both #Democrats & #Republicans in the House for their draft mark-up for next year's #budget, which maintains funding for #NIH (just like the Senate). This is rare, true #bipartisanship and should be praised. But #RussellVought will not be stopped by an appropriations bill. Why? 1/

#NIH is hanging by a thread. The #CDC has been decimated. #RFK Jr. and Russell #Vought are psychopaths--I don't say this frivolously--they are cold, calculating, inflicting violence on millions through public policy. It is where we are right now. These men are not normal. 1/

According to federal data, 13 of the top 20 cities in homicide rates have Republican governors. None of those cities are Chicago.

8 of the top 10 states in homicide rates are led by Republicans. None of those states are Illinois.

And yet Trump is sending troops here.
Post from Donald Trump on Truth Social:

A really deadly weekend in Chicago. 6 dead, 27 hurt in crime sprees all over the city. Panic stricken Governor Pritzker says that crime is under control, when in fact it is just the opposite. He is an incompetent governor who should call me for help. Mayor Johnson is no better. Make Chicago great again!

The brain drain created by this Administration’s anti science policies will affect research for decades.

They are robbing your children of the cures they would have seen.

Stealing science, killing cures.

Nice study by @arghavansallesmd.medsky.social et al., even though quite a depressing read.

Studies/articles like these are useful to help the public understand what's being lost and push back.

Don't want to have long depressing chats with your family, friends, etc. yourself? Send 'em here.

We asked researchers across the country how federal funding changes have affected them and their labs. Their responses indicate a sense of doom and an existential crisis for science in the US: “The ship is going down and we are powerless.”

Importantly, there’s still time to fix this. 1/2

The Supreme Court is reviewing a vitally important NIH case on its shadow docket.

It is likely that the Court will back Trump, and say his (illegal) grant terminations are ok.

We must speak up now.
