Heading in to teach AP government to 17 year olds this morning! At least I have a great example of “discharge petition” that they will absolutely remember for the exam. 🫠

Reading federalist 10 with students this week- the whole point was that to prevent this you need a lot of parties/factions so one can’t take over. We failed.
In a functional party system, this kind of capitulation in the face of authoritarianism could mean the end of the Democratic Party.
In our system, it could mean the end of the two party system. Neither party can represent the pro-democracy majority. It's time for something new.
