I had the Portege. I think I used the stylus like twice. Had I not gotten it from work (Microsoft) I definitely would not have gotten it on my own. It had a tendency to not sleep and drain the battery.

lol. now I'll have something interesting to say about that place. whenever people from other states visit my office, we always end up going there because it's around the corner.

I'm very triggered by the background lines of this era. I worked at Microsoft on Mac Office at the time. Because of many factors, a lot of controls had their own background lines - and they wouldn't align with the background lines of the containing dialog. It was so painful to see.

Thanks. Now I can't unsee the radii.

On a separate note, I find it interesting that we've gone full circle back to System 6's Control Panel UI in that there's so much scrolling in the MacOS System Settings

That the police don’t enforce front license plate laws in California anymore is really maddening when you also get into situations like this

If you want to learn more about Penn station, I'd recommend this @wtyppod.bsky.social video (watch at 1.5x - it's long) which dives more deeply into what it would take to have great train service. Which, after all, is why people go to Penn station.

What is the purpose of Penn station for people taking trains?

If there were more trains and greater frequency, the problems of overcrowding and aesthetics wouldn't be as big a of a problem. Imagine 10 minute headways (wait times). But that requires the solution at the very bottom of the article:

I saw them collecting signatures when I was in Menlo Park earlier this summer. I was surprised to learn this was what they were trying to get on the ballot! Of all things!

I wonder how many more cars we could fit on street parking and in rush hour traffic if they were shorter

(For those who don't know, the population of Hong Kong is ~7.3M, less than the population of NYC ~8.5M)

The salary for what is effectively the Mayor of Hong Kong is $675,000 USD, more than the salary for POTUS.

In the 1970s, they implemented a series of reforms to stem rampant corruption, one of which was raising government salaries.
