The Carney government is setting the stage for austerity. But we know: cuts don’t solve crises, they make workers pay the price. Adequate investment in public services is the only way forward.

How will the $68.5B projected rise in the deficit impact the upcoming budget?
Economist DT Cochrane on the PBO predicting the deficit will rise $68.5-billion and why the private sector pulling back is ‘the wrong way to go.’

Never forget that Carney used to work for a company that is desperate to hoover up privatized assets.

Carney must have skipped the day they taught public goods in Intro Econ.

For public infrastructure and services, can we start talking about how to design them to do what we need, what they can enable, how they can save households and the private sector money and create a level playing field ... instead of treating them like businesses (which they are not!)

The government is reducing service standards and Canada Post’s biggest advantage: its nationwide network.

This plan is about cutting back the postal service instead of investing to give it new revenue tools through things like postal banking. It’s shameful.

Yes.

We’ve outsourced a vital piece of social infrastructure to a rapacious, enshittifying, American tech company owned by a mega-billionaire.

This is economic malfeasance.

Communication and goods delivery are public goods. They should never have been subject to market logic.

"Why do we need door-to-door delivery?" ask the people who expect a DVD, some deodorant and toilet cleaner delivered to their house within minutes of ordering it.

"Why do we need postal workers coming to our door?" ask the people complaining about a loneliness epidemic.

C'mon, y'all.

It’s so sick that we have a very unpopular president and instead of fighting back the democrats are like “ok, who do we throw under the bus next?”

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

I know it is nitpicky, but Larry Ellison is not WORTH $392 billion.

Larry Ellison controls a $392 billion fortune.

He did not earn it. It posses a threat to the rest of us.

No one should have that much power.

Larry Ellison is worth $392 billion.

He's bought:
—Sailing team ($875 million)
—Estate in Cali ($200 million)
—98% of a Hawaiian island ($300 million)

Now he's trying to acquire TikTok, HBO, CNN—and push them right.

A lot of good his giant tax breaks are doing the rest of us.

If you, like me, are the parent of a neuro-atypical child dreading this autism press conference, please remember: These are the people hurting our kids. Not us. They are the ones stigmatizing and pathologizing them. They are the ones peddling untested science. And we should be very, very angry.
