Reintroducing myself!
I’m David, home video producer + Director of Restoration & Authoring at post-production co. MediaOCD, working w/labels like our own @animeigo.bsky.social & @wholegrainpictures.bsky.social, @discotekmedia.bsky.social, Anime Ltd. & more! Maybe I’ve worked on some of your faves?
A collage of discs I’ve either produced, authored, or worked on in some fashion, surrounding a photo of me pogging to the huge Unicorn Gundam in Odaiba, Tokyo. The discs from top to bottom, left to right, are: Urusei Yatsura, Digimon Movies, Berserk 1997, Belle UK UHD+BD, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Aim for the Ace!, Sonic X Japanese Version, and Gunbuster.

POV: you have a seven year old niece who really wanted you to draw Precure characters for her

The title “Bastard chickens who don’t know how to shut up” for this gachapon got a pretty good chuckle out of me

Yes! Looked very, very good to my eyes!

We went out and ate good and watched movie!!
My wife wearing a bow that she knit herself. Isn’t she talented? Pasta and pizza from a pizzeria at the Mitsui Outlet Park near JR Kaihimmakuhari Station in Chiba, Japan. Poster for Patlabor: The Movie, whose 4K remaster is screening in theaters across the nation. The poster in the form of a sticker we received as a goody for coming to the screening today!

New shops are opening up all the time too, at least where we live in the Makuhari area, so there is never nothing new to try... but I kind of stick to the same places as well, sometimes, so I get it 🥲
Congrats on the move by the way! Meant to say that a lot earlier!

Fucking love this channel, been watching it for a long time now!

Eh, it’s a bit alarming for sure, & we’ll see if it gets worse, but I think rn it’s still okay overall. There are crazies on the internet whose voices are loudest, but 99% of ppl aren’t gonna care about you being a foreigner, & in fact, are still very accepting of us, if we’re not complete dickheads
dubudavid.bsky.social
It’s Sony. Even if anyone tried, I doubt it would go anywhere.
dubudavid.bsky.social
I would say anyone who ever gives Crunchyroll money at all is done dirty, but in this case especially so.
dubudavid.bsky.social
Someone will tear them apart soon, I’m sure. My expectations are on the floor.

All signs point to “we lost everything after the merger and had to start over from scratch” but they’re not transparent enough to actually admit that.
That said, this is proof enough of the difference in care and quality of a company that gives a damn VS… what people unfortunately ended up with.
dubudavid.bsky.social
Multiple commentary tracks that were promised were not included, & the whole thing w/the ADV ME tracks was also not included, even after they made an entire post dedicated to having found the materials for em & getting everyone excited. They never stated this stuff would get cut. Awful communication

I’d love for everyone to go ballistic on them ala Disney with Kimmel, but you know only a tiny sliver of a fraction of people who support CR at all even care about Dirty Pair in the slightest…

Losing an entire promised audio track, several commentary tracks, and mixed up disc labels is enough to raise a fuss about. The Dirty Pair Kickstarter fiasco is the gift that keeps on giving, and my shipment is still only processing.

I think what's so frustrating about the Dirty Pair issues for me isn't the mistakes themselves because hey, they happen. Lord knows I've had mistakes slip through before, and things like the disc art switch might not be CR's direct fault, although they should have checked the discs before shipping.

Instead, all they get is a painful reminder of all the money & time & sanity they wasted waiting for this pathetic turd of a set to finally get shit out by a company who clearly doesn’t care like Nozomi did.
All bc a massive corporation decided to eat up the well-meaning little guy. Fucking typical.

This is just so sad. Hundreds of thousands were raised on what essentially is the lowest effort release they could possibly muster. As a disc author I can immediately tell they rushed the authoring, or just didn’t give a shit.
This was supposed to be a celebration and a labor of love for fans.
dubudavid.bsky.social
And possibly the most heinous of all…
4. 2 DISC LABELS WERE SWAPPED & PLAY THE OTHER’S CONTENT
Now, to be entirely fair, this could be on the replicator and not CR, but regardless, what a salt to the wound. It’s like the fans are being insulted or spat in the face at this point with that shit.

So, folks are finally getting their Dirty Pair BDs after 4 fucking years, & here’s the TLDR on what we all expected
1. Several missing stretch goals
2. Bootleg-tier art design/packaging. Cases are low quality & discs are stacked
3. No menu music. It takes <5sec to cut an OP out of an audio file btw

If you’re in the area (which isn’t too hard to get to from Sendai Station, just need to time it right!) you must visit the Ishinomori Manga Museum as well. It’s chock full of awesome displays and interactive exhibits showcasing much of Ishinomori’s works.
The Ishinomori Manga Museum. This place sustained a ton of damage by the 3-11 earthquake and tsunami, but its structural integrity never faltered, and remained standing while much of the surrounding area was reduced to rubble. Inside the museum, there’s a big Kamen Rider exhibit. You can see the helmet from every single iteration of the franchise lined up in order here. Robocon is here too. Kikaider as well.

Visited Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture. Shotaro Ishinomori, who is from the area, and his legacy are celebrated here, and as such, the streets (the main one of which is called Manga Road) are filled with Kamen Rider, Cyborg 009, and more statues!
Statues of Cyborg 009 characters along with Kamen Rider, with a sign behind them reading “Welcome to Ishinomaki”. An Ishinomaki Station sign along with a map of the area featuring many characters from Ishinomori’s works. A Kamen Rider V3 statue protecting an Aeon Mall behind him. A statue of Cyborg 009.

Today I learned that there exist hybrid trains in Japan and I am floored
A screen inside of a Senseki-Tohoku Line train demonstrating its hybrid power system. When this photo was taken, the train was braking, and therefore recharging its batteries, as seen in the energy flow depicted in the diagram.
