I have a big soft spot for the Combattler V pachinko because it is unironically some of the best super robot stuff you can put in front of your eyes. Instantly communicates the appeal of what these shows are about. It's legit super fucking cool.

It's lost a lot of that vital "slamming your action figures against each other" feeling, the sort of appeal of getting an ideal version of a toy play session as a kid brought to life via semi official fanfics.

I think one thing I really appreciate about older Super Robot Wars games is that the attack animations used to mostly be interpretations of what the mech could do that would reference familiar cuts or framings from the show, instead of now where it seems like it has to match the show exactly.

Athrun spending more than half of SEED Destiny developing his political ideology in the cuck chair makes him hanging out with Wufei in SRW Y so good. Both of them are totally lost navelgazing that truly notably terrible things have to happen before either of them realize they're in the wrong.

In all fairness, I put it on when I was already a bit too sleepy and opted to watch it with the crummy Omni English dub which didn't do the film itself any favors. Doing a giant monster movie feels like cheating but if James Rolfe can do it for Monster Madness, then I'll let myself have this one.

Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989)

Each time I watch this, I hope that it'll be the time that I finally click with it, and it never happens. It's just so talky and slow paced. I wanna like this one so bad, I really like it in the abstract, but the act of watching the film is a bit of a chore.

The protagonists in the foreground watch on as Biollante and Godzilla begin to face each other in the distance.

Biollante, a gigantic evolving plant monster that was grown from some of Godzilla's cells, fires her acid spore beam thing at Godzilla's face.
