Holy shit what a film. It does lean a bit further into being wacky but the tone also is pretty in line with the first one with lots of tense moments and empathetic chld terror, just a bit more willing to be over the top on the kills and gags. I'm prepared for nothing to live up to this one, it rocks

i love that they've never remade gundam '79. i remember people hoping for it after space battleship yamato 2199 and the origin OVAs but it's still never happened. it feels like they're saying "trust us, it's good"

The "somebody showed me a TikTok" era of American government is going pretty much exactly how you'd expect.

The simulator stuff is fun because it's a chance to give some of the supporting cast of the various animes a chance to pop up and go "hey remember us, they put us in the game too" so folks like Mazinger's Three Professors or Rakshata or (checks notes) Yzak and Dearka? I guess pilot input makes sense

Was playing a simulator mission in SRW Y where the gimmick is that Rakshata programmed it so a bunch of powerful enemy aces spawn directly surrounding your battleships/robot army and it's honestly quite refreshing not having to do the Turn 1 movement shuffle and instead get right to the action.
