As part of our mega Silent Hill 2 remake LP/Silent Hill 2 original replay, Kyle and I took a detour to original Silent Hill, which we've insisted for years is our favorite, to see if it holds up youtu.be/2korOK6aRjo

While I’m at it, I’d also like to imagine the lead in Scanners being at all charismatic or fun to watch. Mark Hamill would have ruled in Scanners.

Imagine Patrick McGoohan playing a series of eccentrics through the 80s. Sometimes heroic, sometimes villainous, never trustworthy.

The squirrels are getting too tame. Off to our right and behind me were at least a dozen more, almost as close.
Photograph of a white shih tzu/poodle mix leashed on a paved walkway in a park. Its gaze is locked on a pair of squirrels approaching from about 8 feet away and maintaining eye contact.

I’m already complaining that it’s been too long since a Hathaway 3 update. You have to stay ahead of the curve on these things.

Hell yeah, brother.

Except for that comic. Hell no, brother to that part.

In high school one of my classmates was soooooo obsessed with SeaQuest and it was all she talked about. It irritated some of her classmates so much that one of them drew a 12-pane comic (4 rows, 3 columns) that ended with Darwin getting blown up and his remains be eaten by the crew.

Weird times.

I think what's impressive about TRON is that, visually, it's still so much more interesting than any of it's sequels. It's crazy that they tried update this digital world by making it as 'realistically rendered' as possible. It's a complete misunderstanding of the original's charm.
a still from TRON (1982) a still from TRON (1982) a still from TRON (1982) Still from TRON (1982

The RE4-6 period where monsters are finally seeing use as the bioweapons they were ostensibly intended to be and the formation of groups and organizations specifically designed to deal with those monsters is like the perfect setup for "XCOM but with zombies and Tyrants"

New episode and new SEASON! It's been ten years since seaQuest disappeared to fight the space war, and the oceans have changed. It's a new tone, a new style, and a new situation for those who return; all delivered by the gravel voice of the legendary Michael Ironside. rss.com/podcasts/wsk...

a fascinating writeup on the making of a set of widely distributed IDF propaganda videos, specifically identifying assets they used. there's something incredibly unsettling about the creative ethos here. stolen assets. no actual intelligence information at all. just hubris and pure fabrication.
jacksapoch.bsky.social
Others assets came from scans made by the Scottish Maritime Museum of their boat-building workshop which was downloaded (via @sketchfab.bsky.social) and reimagined by the IDF adornments for underground missile factories.

"“AI is arguably the most dynamically evolving tool in making [movies] ... AI is here to stay and change things"

He adds that AI will never have that 'human essence'

If you know me you know I have two answers to this question (at least since we lost Sondheim)
Partial lyrics from Pills and Soap by Elvis Costello:
They talked to the sister, the father and the mother
With a microphone in one hand and a chequebook in the other
And the camera noses in to the tears on her face
The tears on her face
The tears on her face
You can put them back together with your paper and paste
But you can't put them back together, you can't put them back together Partial lyrics from The Ballad of the Sin Eater by Ted Leo and the Pharmacists:
And when I say me
I mean my brain
And when I say give me the cure
I mean to kill the pain
And when I say kill the pain
I mean to get the devil out
And when I say devil
I mean the manifestation of doubt, what about? Partial lyrics from Tramp the Dirt Down by Elvis Costello:
I saw a newspaper picture from the political campaign
A woman was kissing a child, who was obviously in pain
She spills with compassion, as that young child's
Face in her hands she grips
Can you imagine all that greed and avarice
Coming down on that child's lips
Well I hope I don't die too soon
I pray the lord my soul to save
Oh I'll be a good boy, I'm trying so hard to behave
Because there's one thing I know, I'd like to live
Long enough to savor
That's when they finally put you in the ground
I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down Partial lyrics from Lonsdale Avenue by Ted Leo:
[Chorus]
Lonsdale Avenue, I'm coming back home
I've been walking, I've been walking many a mile alone
Long long avenue, I'm one of your own
I've been working, I've been working my fingers to the bone

[Verse 2]
I had a selkie child, in troubled times she came
I couldn't protect her from this life and all its pain
We called her many things and those things she'll remain
But she taught me better love that I might love again

Great example of the need to decouple Broadway (the set of midtown theater spaces with 500+ seats) and Broadway (the style of high-budget, mid-brow theatre often staged there) in your mind.

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

Haven’t found a source to be sure, but just looking at planetariums near the studio the closest match is the Orlando Science Center’s
Screen capture of the seaQuest DSV season 2 episode Dream Weaver. Tobias LeConte (Mark Hamill) stands among the stadium seating and domed ceiling of his planetarium-turned-lecture hall. Photograph of the planetarium at the Orlando Science Center with seats at roughly the same rate of incline, and exterior walls at roughly the same height before meeting the domed ceiling at the seaQuest filming location.
