IRC + discussion board was the synchronous, asynchronous paradigm for a while. IRC definitely has way higher barrier to entry than discord though. Wish there was a better approach that facilitated communities better.

Discord just places way too much emphasis on synchronous chat. Message boards were repositories of information - discord communication is totally different.

Can’t we just circle back to this next year like everything important this week?

Just finishing up a course on learning theory with a ton of Piaget and Vygotsky discussion. It left me wanting contemporary perspectives, I wish your name had come up - I’ve added The New Education to my holiday reading list!
