@bradshoemaker.bsky.social, listening to latest tech pod. The iPhone screen protectors (cheap few dollar ones) are all glass! Plastic would be terrible. And have oleophobic coating on them, they don’t use adhesives. Easy to take off.

@bradshoemaker.bsky.social, curious, is it a personal stance not to use ublock and SponsorBlock to have ad free YouTube? If you have LG tv you can install those on there as well. Even skips the built in ads that are part of the stream. Or is your viewing on phone? Then that becomes more difficult

@willsmith.fun @bradshoemaker.bsky.social I am a bit behind on podcasts, but wanted to mention that for sunshine you can set up virtual monitor (any res) in windows and set that as primary monitor (deice id). Then create a script to sleep your physical monitors when you launch it. Automation!

@bradshoemaker.bsky.social Your Keychrin chattering issue is possibly the switch lube getting where it’s not supposed to, take out the switch and clean it with 90%+ Isopropyl. See if that helps. It being intermittent is lube moving around.

@willsmith.fun watched your latest Arc Raiders stream. Can you explain why such focus on value of loot extracted? Money doesn’t seem to be too useful in the game? Is it just a metric to see how well you did that run? Or is there something I’m missing about the game? Also why not upgrade free kits?

@techpod.content.town on episode 315 you guys didn’t mention another router setup. A retail router but running custom firmware. These tend to be open source and get new features a few times a year. I run WireGuard server, web server, ad blocker all on my netgear r8000 and FreshTomato.

A lot of people just run it on the router (with modern multi core arm CPUs it’s perfectly fine), or on your pihole/plex/HA server. I run all those on one

@willsmith.fun Regarding mouse switches, there have been (for the last 5 years or so) lazer based ones, which due to not using a spring should never develop double click. I’ve been using them in my Deathadder. So far so good. Check them out.

@bradshoemaker.bsky.social indeed seasonic PSUs are great, still using 650W power supplies I got in 3 of my PCs back in 2009. 16 years! solid through many upgrades of rest of the PC. I dont believe is replacing PSU for no reason especially w/ modern mobo protections. Also shoutout to Antec 900 case!

@bradshoemaker.bsky.social @techpod.content.town Gens, FYI the oxygen feature is back only for watch 9, 10. Not to 7 or 8. If you replace battery via Apple you will get a watch back without O2 even though originally they had O2 (this is for 7 and 8)

@techpod.content.town re: recent NTP talk. I run my own because this allows me to completely firewall old no longer supported devices (old NAS that are used for backups) and for them to still grab correct time/date for logging (no internal battery and since they are for backups they get powered off)

@willsmith.fun, @bradshoemaker.bsky.social, are you aware of enshitification of Plex that just happened? You should mention it on the pod, & discuss alternatives like Jellyfin or Emby. Plex went corpo mode. Can’t stream outside home without paying (Ive had lifetime pass for 10y now but jumpin ship)

@willsmith.fun, omg Arctic Clean is amazing! Been using it for 10+ years. I think you seriously undersold it to @bradshoemaker.bsky.social . It literally melts the thermal paste off making it soft like sour cream even if it’s hard as a rock and crusted. IPA doesn’t come close! It’s magic.
