Newspaper coverage of climate change around the globe dropped 6% from May to June 2025 -- and by 28% compared to June 2024, despite increasing frequency and severity of climate-fueled extreme weather events.

Why do global fossil CO2 emissions continue to rise?

In simple aggregated terms: economic growth (orange) is too strong to be overcome by improvements in energy efficiency & structural change (green), & CO2 intensity of energy use (blue).

Fun factoid: When I was running for re-election to the Maine House of Representatives in 2010, #Governor Janet Mills, then the state Attorney General volunteered to drive me around my district knocking on doors for an afternoon. She was as cool then as she is now. Thank you for your service Janet.

Yes, this is a powerful way to visualize the data and the forecasts.
I think this is one of my favourite colourful climate chart type things, because it depicts two things at once:

- Things are going to get worse, no matter what

- The degree to which they get worse depends on decisions made today

Blue Velvet
"Lynchian" is a fully realized and instantly comprehensible adjective, as concrete a one-word summation of an artist's aesthetic and worldview as has ever been associated with any artist in any medium. Things will forever be Lynchian, but there was only one David Lynch. #RIP
David Lynch, Auteur Drawn to the Dark and the Dreamlike, Dies at 78
With such hallucinogenic masterworks as 'Eraserhead,' 'Blue Velvet,' 'Mulholland Drive,' 'Twin Peaks' and 'The Elephant Man,' he often left more questions than answers.

Always worth watching the NASA spiral. Beautiful and terrifying.
It was another stunning year for global climate and weather extremes.

As data is processed and released in the first two weeks of January, you are going to be hearing all about these new historical records. Apologies for my many graphs in advance! 😬

Forgot to post this fantabulous #skijoring on Thursday. Gonna get some rain but hopefully the snow will hold up and freeze up for some scary-fast #zooming.

Kudos to #Netflix and #NFL for their diverse panel of commentators for #KC vs. #Steelers game. The #NHL (which sometimes has 6 white guys) could learn from this example of audience building. Nice work, nice to see.

Marginal wood ferns and intermediate wood ferns are both evergreen, hanging tough through snow, freeze, thaw and refreeze. Pretty impressive for a couple 300+ million year old species.
