One thing I love about Northern Flickers--they have a beautiful little ♥️ on the back of their head! Nature is amazing. 🥰🥰🥰 #Flicker #CentralPark #birding

I've been spotting quite a few Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers in Central Park this spring. Don't you love saying, "yellow-bellied sapsucker"! 💛💛💛 #Sapsucker #CentralPark #birding

I watched this magnificent Red-tailed Hawk land on this perch along Central Park West and almost immediately lost its balance in a strong breeze! No problem, of course--it just spread its wings and flew off! 🥰🥰🥰 #Hawks #CentralPark #birdcpp

It seems to me that the time is ripe for a Bluesky thread about how—and maybe even why—to befriend crows.

One of our favorite subjects is Astoria, Manhattan's only Wild Turkey, who has lived on Roosevelt Island since mid-May. #birdcpp

Many are surprised to learn that Bald Eagles regularly fly over Manhattan. The best place to see them is near the Hudson River north of 179th Street, but they also pass over Central Park, and recently one has been landing on the Reservoir. #birdcpp

RIP to Rover, our beloved local Bald Eagle 😢 He was banded in 2018 (his hatch year) and was a regular visitor to the NYC area. He was called Rover because of the I.D. on his band: R over 7.
Here he is in 2022, soaring over the Reservoir in Central Park (and getting ready to terrorize the gulls) 🦅🪶
