This blue hippo looks like a playful poem.
Happy weekend! 🦛💙

Here’s a wonderful c. 4,000 year-old ancient Egyptian glossy blue hippo decorated with a little bird perched on the stem of a lotus flower.

You don't have to be cool in the literary world. Don't even worry about it. The ones that think they are cool are the biggest nerds of them all. You're doing fine

My mother had a rule I was not allowed to tell her my dreams. This was an early sign I was a poet.

Morning peony report: like yesterday, many are so heavy with their own fabulousness that they must lay their heads on the ground. And some have decided to let go completely and send their fabulousness back to their maker.

congratulations to Marie Howe on the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry!! i’m thinking again of this moment from an interview—

Sometimes I open a book that’s so beautiful I have to shut it because it hurts me. I can’t stand it. It’s like, Oh no! Oh no! Oh no! This is going to drive me into my own heart.

In manuscripts class, a student noticed a page with text that’s barely visible, & nothing could have possibly made me feel any cooler than the fact that I had a small UV wand in my backpack that I used to reveal the text. I don’t think this means the students think I’m cool, but I do.

Anyone know of a modern version of this beautiful blue game?
Senet gaming board and gaming pieces made of blue faience, c. 1390–1353 BC.

Popular in ancient Egypt, Senet is one of the world’s earliest board games. It was associated with the soul’s journey to the afterlife and senet game boards were often placed in tombs. Brooklyn Museum 📷 by me

I suggest a new dice notation term for y'all.

2d6↑ for "roll 2d6 and keep the highest."
2d6↓ for "roll 2d6 and keep the lowest."

Now go use this responsibly.

Helpful reminder for us all.
The scope-creeper would like to know if that project you're working on could maybe needs to be scaled back a bit? Perhaps you could add those extra features as an update or supplemental material? Just sayin'.
