Batteries Dominate Zero-Emission Truck Sales:

"The prospects for hydrogen in road transport look dim. Cost for both vehicles and fuel remain high, infrastructure is challenging, buyers seem uninterested and generous government subsidies won’t last forever."

Also, if you don’t have a copy of Sneakers on a hard drive somewhere… I don’t know where you were at in the 90s and 2000s…

My feed right night:

Yeah, sure Butch Cassidy and the Sun Dance Kid was great but Sneakers is where it is at.

This was Robert Redford trying to play a nerdy uncool policy analyst.

In this talk for Futuroscope 2025 (with French subtitles) I say that populism happens midway along each technological revolution. The way out are policies creating new dynamic demand. Last time it was suburbanisation; this time it's reglobalisation for a North-South win-win game. urls.fr/xo9QKg

Did you know Bluesky's founder has an #STS degree? In a new article, Erin Burkett and I explain why, despite current threats to humanities and social science, "STEM-in-Society programs" like STS are more important than ever. And we guide funders and university leaders how to better support them.
STEM-in-Society Programs Deserve Institutional Support
STEM-in-society programs have proven their utility and have never been more needed—but they are in jeopardy nationwide.

I love this. Not 100% sure about the conclusion. I observe that most English people think traveling 2.5 hours by any means constitutes a “long” journey whereas in North Americans think nothing of it. There is a cultural/mindset piece that i can’t evidence but feels it impacts this.

If you’re in Vancouver this summer definitely check out “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.”

I’m no art critic but this @bardonthebeach.bsky.social production was delightfully redone with 80s vibes and the cast just wanted to have fun. It was fantastic.

As AI advances, more policymakers have been considering the benefits of a public AI compute reserve for startups and research. Sarosh Nagar and @eaves.ca explore what "access to compute" would mean in practice and the importance of these measures for the creation of public goods.

Whoa! 2 Billion... I remember when we were excited to hit 1 million on what we then called our "Dashboard of Vanity."

So many good people helped make this landmark possible...

I couldn't imagine a starker piece outlining how America lost the future. Literally driving into a deadend from a economic, sustainability and climate perspective.
One day a future Jared Diamond will write about this period of US politics.

There’s a Race to Power the Future. China Is Pulling Away.
Beijing is selling clean energy to the world, Washington is pushing oil and gas. Both are driven by national security.

So grateful to @gds.blog.gov.uk.web.brid.gy for hosting a team of @iipp-ucl.bsky.social students for their final semester project. Invaluable opportunity for them to learn working on a real problem.

Also... more grateful they let me take those same students down in ping pong. :)
