Beautiful morning walk on the beach, lots of spider crabs and seaweed, including kelp, washed up.
Also sadly plastic lids (picked up) and onions (!) from a container spill further east.

Cold but beautiful walk along a still river Arun, low golden light.
Red kites, lapwings and a great egret flying overhead.

A gloriously frosty #CissburyRing
Blue sky, warm sun and thick white mist over the river Adur. My favourite oak tree on the summit.
Happy New Year’s Eve!

Currently reading this - part of research for a novel I’m writing.
It’s long, well written and so far completely fascinating.

For several years squirrels have eaten around a third of the camellia buds but for some reason they’ve stopped and now it’s covered in flowers and buds.

The glorious #HighdownGardens today.
Sky is a beautiful blue - snowdrops and hellebores coming out.
We’re lucky that this chalk pit garden is free to enter and open every day of the year.

On the subject of #hares - I’m currently reading this beautiful memoir by Chloe Dalton.
It’s as good as everyone says, magical, moving and uplifting but also describes the many dangers they face, including from shooting and farm machinery, as well as their natural predators.

The Hazel tree I planted three years ago is still hanging on to its beautiful autumn colours.
The Camellia is flowering a month earlier than usual.
Autumn merging into Spring.

Lots of sponges and whelks egg cases washed up after stormy weather. Also some red frayed plastic, masquerading as seaweed with egg cases and shells attached.
A rainbow too!

Lavington Common looking gorgeous in winter sunshine. Even saw a common darter!
It’s where #IvonHitchens lived and painted. Easy to see why he loved it.
